Q. about SSP 500HP pack
hello
how will the evo benefit from the 500hp clutches pack without tuning the TCU?
my target is around 380whp/350wtq on mustang dyno
I do autocross and high speed circuit once or twice a month (except summer of course)
yes UAE's summer is veeeerrryyy hot... average temp is 40C (104F)
i guess this year it is hotter all around the world!! yesterday it was 51.5C (124.7F) while driving home @ 3:00PM
winter is nice, 25c max 10c min in the city
No answer from SSP, I need your help
Thanx in advance

yes but what is the added value of the clutches without TCU tuning?
this question is holding my order
should I order cooler+cluches
or just cooler and keep stock clutches
lous
are they going to tune the TCU?

I wouldn't say the TCU is "cracked" yet... There are some guys out there doing some progress though...
Yousef:
A cooler (specially in your area) is a good idea; SSP kit is pretty good and you can run it independently, even with the car off! I wouldn't put down the idea of the fluid since it really makes the SST happy. I've tried both brands of the current aftermarket fluid and they both work great.
When it comes to the clutches it depends what you are aiming for. Even though the TCU isn't cracked yet, the clutches can still make a difference even with no TCU tuning. (SST table tweeks are a must though!!) Ask Kozmic27, he was telling me that his stock clutches where not holding the power he was putting down, switched to the 500hp clutches, and now is happily driving around town with just over 500whp.
I would say the most important thing is a tuner that understands the SST. Also check with your tuner to see if he has access to some of the trick SST tables, they make all the difference.

We were starting to see a degradation in shift firmness in the 4th to 5th shifts with the stock clutches on an FP green car running E85. This car also is running SSP fluid. I can not say for certain, but I am thinking that the stock clutches will start to have degraded shifting performance around 350-400 lb/ft of torque, using aftermarket fluid. This was observed in on initial pulls, and was never really tested in a road coarse environment, where things are really hot.
I am of the opinion that with the stock fluid, you will see degraded shift performance at lower torque values. I base this opinion on the fact that after switching to aftermarket fluid, the 60' times of my car dropped by about 0.15 seconds. This tells me that the after market fluid improves the friction qualities of the clutches somewhat.
If it were my car, with the same goals and use, in the same environment, I would install a cooler, swap fluids, and install the 500hp clutches, or at least have them on hand in case the stock ones start giving you weak shifts.

The SSP clutches have more surface area, so without any adjustments they will be grabbier. You will likely feel this as "firmer" shifts. This was my experience with them. That being said, it depends on how much power you are making or planing to make. The stock turbo is not really capable of overpowering the stock clutches. Since you are racing your car on a road coarse, without the benefit of being able to adjust any of the sst values, you may benefit from the SSP clutches. Then again you may not.

I will go with your advice
I will get the clutches+cooler, install them and wait for someone to crack the TCU
yeps if u have the budget yousef
but i will still stick to stock fluids
c u soon @ yas when it gets cooler lol and dont thrash me
i will be diy'ing my own cooler soon when i get the parts, fluid and filter the add a little more clamping force
another good tip that might help, get rid of your fogs ! and mod the air guide like the oil cooler side by collecting/deflecting more air towards stock cooler location. there's a write up somewhere here i think.
