Mark,

Does all 4 race wheels + tires fit in the Evo including all the necessary tools?
I've been autox'ing in ST classes.. and thinking about moving into SP or SM class
next year... But I don't have the necessary means to tow the car to events less
the truck/SUV to get the job done. So the only way is to bring all the race wheel+tires and tools in the race car..

Yes, I put the two front tires in the back seat, and the smaller two rear tires fit in the trunk. I could fit two more tires in the rear seat area if I wanted to. Come to think of it, I have never trailered to any solo events. Always street driven.

I've carried four Hoosier 285/30R18s on 18x10 wheels in the back seat area, leaving the trunk available for everything else. The tires stand side by side and just fit between the doors with perhaps two or three inches to spare.

With the back seat removed under SM rules, there is plenty of extra space to fit a 10 gallon air tank, a 5 gallon fuel can, and a few tools into the rear seat footwells. Then you've got the trunk which can hold a fair bit of stuff as well.

Only thing is, you'll need to drive to the event on your rain tires. Which pretty much rules out Hoosier wet radials, Dirt Stockers or Victoracers, unless the event is really really close. Full tread Toyo RA1s can handle the highway miles and run decent in the rain, but don't offer contingency prizes (at National events).

You could always get a tire trailer.

Hi Jack,

You're not going to stay in STU?

With up to 245s you can put 2 wheels in the trunk, and as Mark and Jack said with 255s and up - all 4 need to go in the back seat. I've had 8 tires inside the Evo before (6 in the back seat), but I was use to putting 4 into a 3rd gen RX-7.

I fit two 255/40/17 Victoracers mounted on the stock rims in the trunk very easily. Not even a tight fit. Of course that is without the spare tire in there.

You know you're right, I may have fit 255's in the trunk with the spare. I just had some short 245/40s in there and it was tight, but I have the rear wiper motor. Two 275s don't fit though.

as much as I have tried, it won't go... I can never clear the opening in the trunk.

But if I needed to drag along an extra set of tires, then a tire trailer would work.

Or do what I did last year for the Oscoda Pro. I didn't want to subject my stiffly sprung Evo to Michigan roads -- or risk burning out a clutch in upstate Michigan -- so I scouted around locally for an autoXer with a trailer and tow vehicle... "Free co-drive opportunity in Oscoda, all you have to do is transport me and the car." Worked for me.

Just checked the registration list for the Toledo tour, and noticed that Eric Stemler is not listed in SM anymore. Eric, what's the scoop, I was looking forward to seeing the beast?

For those that put tires in the back seat area... is that with rear seat removed?

try out SP locally probably sometime next year..

The car still needs some more development. Right now it overheats tires quite rapidly and my new set of A3S05's didn't work very well..... I might have to run roadrace compound to maintain competitive speeds for an entire lap. The brakes are also totally inadequate and I haven't quite finished the adapter bracket design to adapt my champcar front calipers. I also haven't had a chance to change the transmission gearing like I planned so I'm going to do more testing and hopefullly have most of the chassis/driveline issues sorted out before the Oscoda Pro. Maybe I'll have all the aero pieces finished as well....

Good luck in Toledo,
Eric

Champ car calipers??? Wow. Are you going to use the Lola or the Renard aero bits? Since everyone (almost) is using Lola chassis I bet you could get a deal on some Renard wings or diffusers.

Enough kidding, I m just jealous.

This puts a whole new meaning to the "Modified" category.
