I would say the spool is about 400 rpm later right now. Which would mean that I would be waiting on it a little bit off of pivot turns right now. Hopefully with the aem, we can tune a little of that out, and never have an issue on waiting for power. Will know for sure in a week. Dyno chart to follow.

Will you start trailering it? I was under the impression that you still drove it to all your events. Will you swap in a stock ECU for emissions tests?

Yes I will be driving to all events, I will leave the stock system in the car for emissions purposes. Changeover will be very easy.

My first event on coilovers and R compounds

I just did my first event on coilovers (Ohlins) and 285 v710s on 18x9.5s. They worked great on my first time out on course yesterday (good enough to go from 5th to 1st place in SM in DC region, but still a couple seconds off the pace of an SS Elise that trophied at Nationals last year) but I've got a few issues to sort out.

I'm running 10f/12r spring rates with a Hotchkis rear bar set on full stiff. Ride height is about 1 inch under stock in the rear and 1.5 inches under stock in the front. -3.3/-1.3 camber, zero toe all the way around. I was running hot pressures of about 33/32.

The car was reasonably neutral except when accelerating out of a tight corner it had a tendency to push rather than rotate (I'm used to a Camaro). Mid corner balance and turn-in was pretty good. It was a demon in slaloms. Holy cow was it faster than my Camaro in transitions!

When I took the tires off, I noticed that the inside edge of my rear tires looked virtually unused, but it was worn right out to the outer edge. The front tires look even. I don't have a pyrometer. The tire wear in the rear suggests that I need more rear negative camber, but I'm worried about getting a push from that.

Any suggestions? If I could get on the power earlier out of corners without that push, I'd definitely be faster.

Thanks!

Rich,

Good to see an Evo back on top of SM in the DC region.

Regarding the rear camber -- FWIW, I always ran as much rear camber as I could get out of the stock adjustments. I think it was at least -2.0 degrees on both sides. I never felt the need for (or saw the wisdom in) intentionally giving up camber in the rear to get rotation, considering that with adjustable dampers, it's not that hard to get the car close to neutral.

Have you tried softening the rebound in front?

I didn't change the settings during my four runs since I was getting faster just getting used to the car. I started at about 66% full stiff on front rebound and about 85% full stiff on rear rebound. I need to play with the settings more to get a feel for them, but I understand that more rear rebound and less front will tend to get the car to rotate more in the first part of the turn as the car takes a set? It went where I wanted it yesterday generally except when exiting turns on throttle, but I think I'm probably underdriving the car a fair amount most of the time since I'm not used to this much grip. It sure is fun to drive now!

Dyno and tuning update. Car has really good power now. I drove out to AMS in Illinois to have an AEM installed and tuned with the new evogreen turbo that I installed. Results were very good. The car made 421 whp, and 398 wtq on 100 octane unleaded. Over 300wtq from 3600rpm to 7400 rpm, and over 350wtq from 4000rpm to 6400 rpm. I plan on running at englishtown on the 26th for a full autocross shakedown before the Devens tour. I think the car should be really fast on an autocross course now.

Many thanks to Tim at AMS for the aem installation work, and Martin and Chris, who collaberated on the tuning effort. The most amazing part of the aem to me is how much smoother the car is both on idle, and pulling. I also managed to get 28.5 mpg on the drive home form Chicago. That was more than a mile per gallon better than I have seen on my car.

Mark

i havent ran at an event in 2 months and im so far behind. lol

that turbo looks very promising mark. i'll be seeing u there next week.

i just put a new seat in and with new lower center of gravity i can feel the car much better just from driving around. i also took the wing off since it needs to be re clear coated. doubt i feel any difference but we'll see.

i need to find me some wheel spacers to play with and see what i get out of them.

Daddio, your car was already ego braking fast, now they should have seperate class for the Daddio-Tunnel-Hollis kind so you guys can stop hurting fellings of mere mortals like us. I was going to stay local next week-end but I guess I should make a trip to e-town to witness the madness. SM should become another evo-winning class this year at the nats.

Manny, I recently put 10mm front spacers and it definitely helped adding more front grip. Hugo is selling a nice set of spacers you should shout him a pm. I 'll se you at e-town next week-end.

Hey guys...

Is there any reason why a Rota P45R 18x9.5 +30 offset would NOT work with 285/30/18 A6's with a 5mm spacer in the front and the standard rolling/pulling of the rear fenders?

I'm just double checking the way I understand offsets and spacers. I understand that you can run 18x9.5 +35 with a 10 mm front spacer, and 18x9.5+40 with a 25mm spacer in the front.

Anyone running this setup? I'm on a very strict budget and am tired of waiting on the used market to agree with my price range. (I'm also tired of getting whipped by the local guy with 18x10 CCWs )

Going out on a limb here, but anyone have any used 18x9.5s or better yet, 18x10s they're looking to get rid of ?

I ran 18x9.5 +35 with a 10mm spacer for one event with 285 V710s. That forces you to run the camber bolt in the low position. I'm switching to a 20 mm spacer, which undoubtedly will require some front fender work. If you want my used-one-time-only Kics 10mm bolt on spacers, shoot me a PM. You should know that +40 with a 25 is an effective +15, whereas a +35 with a 10mm is an effective +25 (i.e., wheel is tucked in 10mm more).

The new car is coming together nicely. We have a couple events under our belts and it's definitely going to be a FAST car when it's all sorted. We set FTD last weekend by about 1 second on a 30 second course vs. several 2006 champs (still about a second considering indexes). My codriver did very well, but I, however, am having some trouble. I spun out on 4 of my 6 runs!! Never done that before (at least not that often!). I have no idea what caused it - maybe a combination of cold tires (50 degree day), a dirty course, and me pushing it too hard trying to make a good showing. Who knows. I just hope I can clean up my driving. . .

We'll see how things go when we get the splitter and wing on her and get a real tune. Still running on a pump-gas base map. . .

Here are a couple pics from the Winged Warrior 3 event:
