they do make an OEM crash beam, would this still fly? its OEM Mitsu, and the rule book requires it to be OEM

thanks in advance
no that beam is not a replacement for the crash beam. It's only the mount for the license plate.

As for the buschur motor mount/sub-frame connector, I don't think it's legal because as others have said, the motor mount bolts up to the connector. The rules say that the motor mount itself is unrestricted, not the part that it connects to. I am not sure that you can say that piece is a sub-frame connector because it really doesn't connect any frame rails.

BUT, the front engine mount bar connects the front suspension subframe with the radiator support, which, technically would also be considered a subframe. How about from that angle??

What is the performance benefit of the aftermarket "engine mount bar"? Is it a weight savings? If so, how much?

It's a weight-savings deal--abt 6# for the front subframe bar, a bit more for the moustache bar.

I see 2 ways of looking at it.

1) you have eliminated the motor mount by incorporating it into the subframe. This might be legal under the current rules.

2) you have eliminated the subframe by incorporating it into the motor mount. the motor mount is unrestricted, but you have also technically modified/eliminated the stock subframe. I don't know if that would be legal.

I think this needs clarification before someone is protested.

[edit]
after looking at the rules, there is no allowance to replace a subframe component, only to add to the existing subframe.

I don't think this is a legal mod for SM

Don't think too deep into it. What does that part do? It's basically an engine mount. You are attaching it in the stock location and not moving the engine at all AND it isn't solid metal...therefore it's legal

how about the new diff mounts ams just came out with?? i think $200 for 13 lbs is pretty decent considering what you would usually have to pay to shave 13 lbs

You don't have to think that deep into it, just get a clarification from the SEB.

You are also changing the part that the engine mount attaches to. The rules say the mounts by themselves are unrestsricted as long as they attach to the stock mounting point.

There is no provision to replace the piece that the engine mount attaches too, only the engine mount itself.

No. You can't take out any of the interior except rear seats, seat belts, stereo equipment, and replacing front seats with lighter racing buckets.

And technically if your mod list is correct your car is not legal for SM because I am assuming when you installed the JDM IX rear you got rid of the bumper support/crash beam.

Here are some things you can do to save weight--
- remove AC
- lighter shocks
- titanium exhaust (AMS exhaust is heavy)
- aluminum UICP and intake (BR units are heavy steel)
- tubular exhaust manifold
- lighter FMIC (AMS unit is heavy)
- hollow sway bars

. . . etc. . .

thanks, i already have a racing cat back exhaust that i bolt up for racing. i actually modified my bumper support to fit the jdm rear so i'm good in that area. i think i might bolt my stock fmic back up for nationals and i think my sway bar is hollow.

thanks for the advice though

If you took off more than 1lb of material from the bumper beam, then you are not legal for SM.

Sounds good.

I was planning on switching to the JDM rear also so I could run the Voltex rear diffuser, but I already have more than enough downforce in the rear with the big wing.

Pretty sure the cusco is not hollow. If I am misinformed, someone please let me know.

I'm betting the bumper support was modified too extensively to be legal.
