Cool Are Evos REALLY that much better than STis? :D

Went to the track yesterday...

It was my second track day, and the first time I had only been able to do half-track. Yesterday was the full track so it took a few laps to get used to, but after the first hour I was passing just about every single car on there. It was also a bit wet so I made sure to drive a bit more carefully. There were around 10 STis at the track and I was taking them all...

The only car that gave me a run for my money was a new M roadster...

So... does this mean I'm a good driver? Or is the Evo just that amazing of a car? Or maybe it's the stock Advans, which handled superbly in the rain.

Whatever the case, I love my car and I just want to tell everyone to take their Evos to the track at least once. I haven't stopped smiling since

Hi,
if your EVO is an EU model with AYC, I will say that its obviously better than any STI but with US model (ACD only) I think it's a matter of drive (& *****!) on the track...

NoTec: The track was Shannonville - http://www.shannonville.com/

Theblue: Nope, no classes. There were lots of kinds of cars, from stock civics to turbo RSXs to turbo 240s to stock/modded STis to M roadsters.

I'm happy to hear that my driving is improving. I was really nervous going against cars that were at my level or higher. Are the A046 really good in rain, or just average?

I'll try to post vids up when I can!

Those STi's must've not been setup right. Stock STi's understeer, admittedly - but stay very solid throughout a turn, they always feel stuck to the road really well. Sways, bushings, and endlinks with a proper coilover setup can eliminate this for an STi and make them handle amazingly.

I'm talking stock for stock suspension-wise. All I'm running are Swift springs right now.

brake mods?

eggy, bonestock - were you running stock pads? I just did my 1st lapping day with the evo and it drove great (duh) except I got some brake fade. I have some DS2500 pads but haven't installed them yet. Another guy who tracks his M3 was also out with his evo for the first time, with Pagid yellow (track) pads, and he was disappointed in the braking. He didn't get fade, just noted that he had to brake earlier/harder compared to the M3 (no, not because he was going faster...). And yes, the stock tires rock in the wet and held up better than I expected after the track dried out.

here's a tidbit of info from trakpedia, http://www.trackpedia.com/wiki/Shann...ical_Lap_Times
I've never been there, and I wouldn't take those times as set in stone, but you can at least use them as a benchmark I suppose.
