Pikes Peak or bust!

I wish I had the opportunity to run the event when it was all dirt and no guardrails.
Right now the event is in serious transition, but I fully expect to see a different kind of car show once the paving is complete. I'd been kicking around the idea of using a shifter kart, and finally heard someone else mention it on the summit.
Gixxer kart anyone? For the next few years, I expect AWD to still be an advantage so I'll be there in our Evo.

It might be more appropriate to start with auto-x, because sometime within the next 5 years, the entire event will be tarmac.

I can see it now:
ring ring ring...Hi Eric, yep this is Dave bugging you guys again. I've found a new chassis to race in 2012, and I'm probably going to need one of your 4G63 turbo kits. I'm thinking 2.3RR and a 30R should be "enough" power for this project. 500hp, 8000rpm redline, 1000lbs of carbon fiber and downforce galore.
If all goes well, we might be able to turn this into a 'spec' class for 2013.
ring ring ring...Hi Paul, Dave here. Any chance you guys have a 2 seater Lola? Allison still wants to call the shots.

I've been following the build of this car from the beginning, and I have to congratulate you on building such a competitive (and bloody good looking!) car!
Now that the event has been run, what do you do from now until next years event? Are there plans for other events? Do you have any major plans for the car to go quicker next year?

We run the car in the Colorado Hillclimb Series (www.chcaracing.com) and are currently in 2nd place. In addition, several local companies have stepped up and put together a cross orgiznational series called the Colorado Rally Cup (combines rally-x, hillclimbs, and stage rally), and we are leading in the standings for that one (www.coloradorallycup.org). My goal for the rest of the season is to win one of those championships, but both would be terrific. I don't have much stage rally experience, so I'm not expecting to have a tremendous outing at Rally Colorado, so the driver in 2nd place in the CRC has a very good chance of overtaking us. I wish more of the local drivers had been able to contest all the events making for a tighter battle, but with the economy being in the dumps and gas costing what it does, I'm not exactly shocked that we've had some attrition.
One thing I really want to focus in on for next season is doing more track testing. I'm sure the aero bits helped out, but after looking at trap speeds, I'm wondering if I could've gotten away with a bit less wing allowing for a higher top speed. Either way, I'm thrilled with how this season is progressing and I can't wait to see what 2009 brings.
As for next years events, I'm not too sure right now, other than PPIHC. Targa Newfoundland is on my list of events to do in my lifetime, as well as One Lap of America, but both of these will be expensive to get to and contest. Unfortunately both of these events will also likely conflict with CHCA events, so I'll need to figure out where our sponsors want us travelling. As long as I get to turn the wheel, I'm down to race in it.
Hell, I'll probably even bring the car out to the 'wednesday night drags' at Bandimere once the rally season is over - I just don't want to risk breaking anything with a terrible launch.

Interesting news on the halt in paving. Great news for the AWD cars and those of us that like to get dirty!

It is more like the City doesn't care what paving will do to the race.
The city makes far more in tourist revenues from people wanting to drive up it than that race could ever hope to generate from its recent form...
Yep he did.
On the last leg of the race the he was drifting into a corner and it looked like it locked up on him so he was not able to get out of the drift. Before the crash they were doing really good on the corners.
