My brake cooling solution idea

What do you think, its an idea I had for brake cooling duct system. I don’t want a big honken scoop on the front bumper or remove headlights or hang something under the front lip. A lot of people terminate a 2” flex hose right at or behind the bumper grill, to me you need something to direct air into the hose. I’m using naca ducts with 3” hose. So this is my idea. Untested of course as I just mocked it up.

That should be a somewhat high pressure area, so you should get decent flow. Nice install.

Great idea!

Why not duct from the front lower vents in the stock bumper cover?

should work pretty good, 2 things 1, are you gunna put a small scoop at the beginning of the duct to direct even more air into the ducting? and where did you pick up those ducts

I've use things like Shop Vac hose to corrugated irrigation pipe to vent brakes before... event hot tub tubing will work in a pinch.

Race Shops also have stuff just for this. All tied up pretty with bailing wire

Try looking up NACA ducts. They are the most efficient way to get air to move from an area of high to low pressure. Much better than scoops, and they are very low drag.

To the OP: Very cool idea, if the airflow over the undertray is laminar. Where'd you get the ducts?

I like the idea, but I don't think the pressure is anywhere near what it is on the face of the bumper.

Very nice!

Problem I found with the front areas (at least in ACD cars) is that the oil cooler is on the left and ACD pump on the right. So its hard to get a straight shot to the brakes.

How did you attach the hose to the brakes?

Yeah, I've always wanted to see a purpose made duct that blows air over a larger surface of the rotor. Getting air in is easy, getting sufficient air over the rotor surface has always been a problem for me.

Passenger side has an oil cooler scoop and I didn’t want my duct to share space with that. The driver side (the bigger issue) is filled with a bunch of ACD components and would need to be moved. It was easy to put this underneath, I hope it works

A scope in front of the NACA duct? I thought of that but as I said I don't want anything hanging down, now maybe adding something like a short air dam right behind the NACA, I will see how well this work first. NACA ducts can be found a race supply shops like Pegasus:

I forgot where I got mine, been in the garage for a long time.

Agreed but I don’t like any of the other front mounted options, at least the ones I can imagine. When the EVO turns into a real race car then more options exist for me.
