CBRD Time Attack Testing- summit point
Well,
we finally got her out on sunday for some private testing on the small jefferson circuit... The idea was to just shake the car down and make sure every system on the car was working well...
We had some small issues throughout the day... the main being a gearbox issue with the car not wanting to go into gear on upshifts.... especially 3rd to 4th.... we are going to make some fluid changes and bushing changes and see where that takes us...
The track is a small 1.2 mile driver ed track with a nice little carousel, some off camber transitions and short straights...
we started off just checking the brakes and power delivery.... The tial housing and custom intercooler setup worked brilliant... very progessive on throttle input...
all in all, we probably had about 6-7 undisturbed laps (aka without shift issues)... and about 25 laps in total.... we had an issue with a manifold fuel rail stand-off breaking mid-day... and we were able to have the manifold off in about 15 mins and had it rewelded and back on the car within an hour (thanks in part to Mark our tech and quick disconnect fittings)...
I then concentrated on small damper changes..... which made significant improvements.... our laptimes went from 1.01s to 58's in the first 3 lap test period... down to 54.4 at the end (all on the same set of ao48's) even with gearbox issues...
we then made some adjustments and changed our shortshifter... and put Myles in the car from Race Comp/GT worx, who is a great friend of mine and very well versed in these cars... promptly... after pitting in twice for tire temps and pressure adjustments... he got down into the high 55's.... Myles stated a slight improvement with the shifter change.. but still had issues shifting as the box got warm...
All in all, it was a fun day... I think the car is capable of a 51-52 second lap around the track on the A048s... which I believe is pretty fast (i think the track record by a Toyota Atlantic style car is a 48???)..... we also have some slicks to test later...
We now have a laundry list of things to address before our first official event some of those which include:
Different Front Brake Compound (we caught the fronts on fire)
Brake Cooling ducts
Shrouding around the oil cooler (we saw oil temps of 240 degrees, which drug the coolant temps up to 210ish, normally theyd run around 185)
and the big one, reworking the shifter setup and bushing assemblies...
The damping worked great on the Motons, although we need to control the springs a little more... so we will make some changes there also..
Overall, a sucessful test.. My first time back in a car on a track since late 2004.... and it came back pretty quick... although the car did feel quite heavy (2900lbs) and lacked grip compared to the LMP cars i drove... oh yeah..and way way too much power assist for my liking on the track even with about 6 degrees of pos. caster!
quick pic.. more high res and video coming this week

Thanks to everyone-

Glad to hear she's out on track.
What clutch package are you guys running? Is this a high rpm lockout you guys are experiencing or just a reluctancy to up-shift? Either way, I know you'll get it straightened out...
I want to see pics of those brakes on fire...

using the brembo 6 piston monoblock front and 4 piston rear
DS3000 all around..
ill be leaving them at the rear and going to a PF pad up front...
it was just not enough for the track... we werent using hardly any rear brake..
15w-50 dominator amsoil... which may change also..
i think its pretty awesome we ran the car tuned on 93 octane

That's bizarre with the shifting. Have you tried using the stock shift lever, I've found every short shifter to be worse than stock.
Should be fun to get the splitter and diffuser on there and out on a faster track, and running some E85!
