Rev Iphone App Testing

I work in the GPS/Mapping industry and so I hurried to get the Rev Iphone App and connect it up with my car. This weekend I went playing in the mountains (you might have seen my video FAIL in the show/shine section) but I was also up there testing out Rev. The program works amazing and the Iphone GPS worked great considering I was in deep canyons where GPS can have trouble.

You can see the attached text file for how the data comes back and you can see on the jpeg what can be done with it if you have the correct software. In the picture there is a lot more work that could be done, I just threw that up in about a minute to show the basics of what could be done.

Planning to do some tests next at a track so I can get the lapping feature in and have better GPS accuracy with a flat area.

If you are in so cal and want to play around with it sometime just PM me and let me know

Its on the app store now for $40, but you also need an ODB II sensor with wireless.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Data is not fine enough for really analyzing. 0.5g or more it goes red. That is not very accurate. Can you change the g settings? The MPH bit is ok for general data, but not what you want on the track. You want to see finer data when entering the turns.

This is from a simple GPS unit that I have (GingerMan, MI):

Data is not fine enough for real track use, but fun to look at. Gives you an idea on where you are at and where you might be able to pull some more speed/lower lap time.

There are much more sophisticated track programs made just for this. Those are great for data.

This seems to have more to do with motorsports than the Ralliart.

Cool program! In addition to GTWORX, I also work for the US Geological Survey and have a decent amount of experience with GPS units and an asston of experience mapping.

What does the program output? Just lat and long, and then did you calculate acceleration and velocity yourself? I take it you plotted the points yourself in ArcMap?

I want to make one of these programs myself....might buckle down and get programming this spring. The plan at first is to get it working with a netbook with one of those USB GPS dongles, then see if i can do something for iPhone or the new Droid.

The iPhone GPS isn't the best for this kind of thing...ideally you want a refresh rate of more than once per second, since at 120 mph that can make a difference. Also, I don't think the iPhone GPS is WAAS enabled, so accuracy is only 15-20 feet.

But all that said, it would still be damn fun to look at and play with and it's a big market. And it's a lot cheaper than the professional systems out there!

Also, holy crap that looks like a fun road!

Just saw the raw text file you posted....cool.

Smike, he can change the classification so there is finer detail in the upper ranges of lateral G's.

What program are you using for your image Smike?
