You don't have to do much moding of an evo before BRAKES are more important than anything.
You can out brake most drivers with an evo. You can keep up with 80% of hpde cars, stock power wise, with good brakes you can stay ahead of 85%.

For my car in relatively cool Pacific Northwest a set of two piece rotors from RB is good enough for hpde. California guys don't do anything without ducts.

Lastly figure any mod you do will take ten thousand miles off the "hasn't been in the garage yet" time frame. In my case its more like, I'd like to get 5k without a breakdown.

As much as you can afford to slow down, and make handle.

so what are FP stock frame turbos usually used for, if not for road race? i thought FP turbos were one of the many reliable ones...what would you recommend for me? i want a turbo that has potential at 500whp, and i will only make at most 450whp, so i dont blow my turbo as fast

thats ****ed up............................
If you're a novice, you really don't want nor need that kind of power before you learn to drive the car stock. They're tremendously capable in any form and I think you'll be surprised by how fast you'll be with nothing more than proper brake fluid and pads.

Adding that level of horsepower is only going to make you a danger to yourself and others as well as create reliability, heat, and braking issues before you even learn how to drive fast.

Exactly. Power is far from a pre-requisite for heading to the track. If anything, it's the last thing you need.

minimum power upgrades, like TBE exhaust - intake - cam - good tune. Let the engine exhale easier
Then suspension, coilovers - tires and good wheel aligment , Some low money suspension geometry upgrades and bushings, wont hurt either.
Then brakes!! brake lines, pads - rotors.
AFter these weight reduction !!!! the most important . Down at least 3100 lbs.

after that you set. Now you just have to learn your own car. You will be surpised how fast your car will be against others.

I skipped through a lot of the thread and will give you my answer baised on my exp. of having my car driven on a track by Robi (robispec). Also riding in my buddies 9 rs on the track and at the virginia city hill climb.
You can make more than enough power on what you want to put in your car. The best thing to make USE of that is a good suspension setup with a good alignment. I was SHOWN that by Robi in my car at a Redline time attack event..my gift for helping him out that weekend.
Now my friend in his 9 using Robispec clubsports. still on stock 9 turbo but everything ported twin plate clutch and e-85 setup..that guys car is a BRUTAL car to be in around the track. Before suspension and proper tire/weel combo he was quick..he dropped 5 seconds buy those changes and then got faster and faster. The track ref. was going to kick him off because he was "going to fast on a pratice day" Fast forward to the Ferrari hill climb in Virgina city..His first time out he placed 3rd in his class..his class was packed with F430 sucddiear-whatevers the real limited ones, an ultima gtr, a crazy porsche..a cracy F360 challenge all tuned for raceing..Its in the suspension is the point..work on that first, and breaks.

I run have tracked my car @300WHP for almost 2 years now and never really have felt the need to run more power.
Yes, I have been beaten at time attacks AND AXs by cars with 50-100whp more then me but i have a hard time changing the balance of the car.
For me IMHO anything beyond 400whp warrants a cage and a BBK. The stockers dont have enough in them to bleed off the speed that these cars build at that power level consistently.
And at that level you need good tires, good cooling, and great suspension and chassis setup..

+1

Been following; figure I'd share my thoughts. My current ~310whp and 3200lbs seems really fast to me! I've had the car with more whp in the past, but that's back when it weight near 3500 lbs as well.

An easier and cheaper route - weight reduction....
