Carbotech Pads for Evo X

I have been doing HPDE's since 2004 and on June 11 I will be doing my first in an Evo X. I run Carbotech XP10's front and rear on my Miata with 225 width Hoosiers and have had great success with them.
I am looking to get a set of Carbotech Pads for the Evo X and I need some advice on the compounds. From what I understand the XP12's should be fine (>3200lbs on street tires) but should I run these front and rear?
The car is equipped with 265 width Kumho Ecstas.

Ya should be fine. I know of several Evo's running XP 12's and a few on 16's with full mods. 8's wouldn't last long with such power/weight. The only time you get into splitting compounds is if you were running super torque like 16's, DTC70, ST47, etc up front, then I wouldn't put 16's in the back, but with the 12's you should be aight.

I think 10's up front and 8's out back would be fine. Not saying you shouldn't run the 12's/10's, just that it might be a little overkill for those tires. Either way, you'll be happy I'm sure.

I don't have an X, but I can tell you from running thru a few sets of xp10's and one set of 12's on my VIII w/255/40/17 Z1 star specs that I felt virtually no difference between the braking ability of the 10's & 12s on my car. I think the reason for that is because I don't have grippy enough tires to take advantage of the extra torque the 12's offer over the 10's. The fact that your X is heavier than an VIII, and running wider/more aggressive rubber, might mean you would feel a difference. Best bet might be to call carbotech up, tell them your specs and driving style and see what they recommend for you.

I will be going back to the 10's all around because they're a touch cheaper than the 12's and seem to last a good bit longer. I went thru about 2/3's of my XP12s in 3 track days vs. the 6 days I usually get out of a set of 10's. YMMV

I run my car on 12/10s, and I think its a perfect setup for street tires. On r-comps, I'd switch to 16/12

Thanks for the advice, any forum vendors that you guys could recommend for purchasing a set? I'd like to keep it in the family.

Great thanks, their pricing is very competitive. I just ordered XP12's for the front and XP10's for the rear.

I should have put some brake ducting in. After 15 minutes the fluid boiled (Motul 600) and turned the Brembos into Blackbos. I flushed the fluid for Motul 660 and took it easy on the brakes for the next few sessions and they held up fine. It was my roommates car and luckily he thinks the Blackbos look gangster so he wasn't too mad. Also he got the itch for track days and will be joining me in August for a track day at Sebring, but he'll be driving this time.

Any ideas as to why you cooked the fluid so quickly?

Too much heat. The stock brake cooling on the X is not up to the challenge of threshold braking from 130 to 50 and then 120 to 80 and so on, in 90 degree heat.
