The ban of the blown diffuser is idiotic as well. Who doesn't want to see a car go faster around a corner? That's half the reason I watch F1 is the amazement I feel when these guys take turns like they do. But I guess since it was benefiting Red Bull more than others and they couldn't have a new comer destroying the likes of Ferrari and McLaren they had to do something. They would have caught on. I guess rules need to be made to the least common denominator. I just hope Red Bull doesn't get tired of the whining from other teams and keeps trying to move forward with innovations. Even if it wasn't my favorite team it still boggles my mind the things they come up with. It's like Einstein is running the team. I sit there and try to get my head around the stuff they come up with and it's just crazy that humans can be so ingenious. I bet Newey could cure cancer!!! LOL

And damn it Kimi you should have caught Hamilton! No worse day in F1 than when the most overrated driver in F1, (Hamilton) wins. But is was nice seeing McLaren pooping themselves trying to figure out what to do to keep ahead of the Lotus. Just a matter of time...

Agreed. I would like to see the fight get more interesting towards the end of the season. Hami, Alonso, Kimi, Weber and Vettel going at it.

Seems like the double DRS has more to do with the teams than the FIA.

And I disagree with Ken. What Red Bull did with mapping was genius. And it was within the written rules.

Great posts, both of you guys. During practice for Hungary, Bob Varsha, David Hobbs and Steve Matchett all said that the engine mapping was brilliant and that the reason the stewards ruled against it was because if it went before the court, it would have been declared legal, and thus would have forced other teams to come up with a similar system.

There are plenty of formulas out there where all the cars are the same and where the engines are prevented from being tampered with. This is fine for up and coming drivers and teams who want to keep the competition close and the costs down. However, we are not talking lower levels of motorsport. We are talking about the pinnacle of all racing. F1 has always been about innovation, experimenting and finding loopholes to exploit. What Red Bull did was brilliant and I think that those who disagree do so more because they hate the Red Bull team rather than what RB did.

Do the haters of Red Bull really want to see everyone driving cars like Marussia, Caterham and HRT because those guys really have the same formula? There will always be the haves and have nots, no getting around it. Ferrari, Red Bull and McLaren are the teams to beat with Lotus and Mercedes trying to hang on to their tails. If these teams can build a better mousetrap, what of it?

On a different note, superb drive by Lewis. Really glad to see him and McLaren back on form and I was oh so hoping that Kimi would win. I think almost everyone wants to see the Iceman win. Lotus is there and ready for a win. On a more sour note, what in God's Green Earth is happening to Mercedes? Schumi looked totally hapless and Rosberg wasn't much better. They seem to be going backwards while Williams and Force India seem to be catching up. Big break now until the late summer/early fall. Guess I will be taping NASCAR in the interim.

Merc and Pirelli Tires: Too much torque

Apparently one of the culprits for poor tire degredation is related to the amount of engine torque...since Merc engines R said to have more torque than the others, some feel that this is the reason Merc and FI R getting less laps on a set of tires...this from Brawn: "characteristic of the engine has a large influence on the degradation of the tyres...[and we have]"recognised the problem" ...reducing engine torque R underway as a means to solve this problem...so here is a case where less power is better than more power, at least when accelerating out of the turns.
