I've got a 2005 Nissan Armada SUV with tow package. It does the job of wife-mobile during the week and has plenty of sack to lug the race car on the weekend. Also tons of interior space to carry supplies/tools etc and can be locked up as needed.

I have a tundra, looks inside exactly like they biggest suv.
Rides beautiful. Does around 17 mpg as a daily driver.
I tow a lot with it, and with close to 10k lb of load with a trailer etc. under 2k rpm at 70mph on high way in 6th gear, does around 15mpg. Never did under 14mpg even when i did tow up in the mountains.
Has very quiet and smooth ride. Also got a real strong engine and amazing drive train. (5.7 Iforce V8 with a 6 speed tranny with all the towing package and Rock Warrior trim upgrades)

I was really looking around before i got it, and i still think the best 1.5 ton truck out there. HAs a really great 6 speed - brakes and acceleration with a suv like ride.

The trailer is a constraction trailer (heavy but stable and sturdy )

I got a 06 F250 6.0 Powerstroke.. It pulls like a dream.. Get about 13-14mpg depending on terrain.. Ima buy the SCT tuner soon and see if that will help my mpg since on the forums they are claiming 3-4 mpg increase in economy mode.. so maybe there is a little gain on the towing map..

I'm towing this season with a 2012 Jeep grand cherokee. It has the 5.7 hemi with a tow rating of 7500lbs. I was actually just out looking at trailers today. I'm just going to go with a steel open trailer for now.

I'd like to hear how well towing with an SUV will be. I'd really like the idea of getting an SUV as it can be used for much more than just a car hauler.

If I were to get an SUV, I was also hoping to find an open center trailer. Something light, and doesnt have to be built to haul a 6000lb car/truck. My car is under 3000lbs.

Something like this in aluminum would be awesome:

2009 2500hd 6.0. pulls my evo on an open trailer at 8-mph great. i get about 10-11 pulling at 80, imagine it would get a couple mpg better at 60-65

Not sure if they have dealers where you are but the Evo fits on the 15 foot version of this perfectly. I towed with this for 2 years before I picked up a used Trailex.

The other nice thing is that the econotrailer holds it's value well when you go to re-sell it for a baller featherlite

Hey, if Patrick is towing with his Porsche. I will say that the jeep will be fine. lol

I did tow my car last year on a 15 hr tow up to Mt Washington in New Hampshire. We used a new Toyota 4-runner and had no problems. That isn't exactly a flat towing area!

Those are really nice Jeremy (but then again you only have to tow 3 months out of the year once the snow melts in May and starts again in September )

All this talk about Featherlite - anybody priced those bad boys? Crazy. I was quoted over $7500 when I was looking for a 17.5'

I went with a different Aluminum trailer for under $5k. 18' too. http://www.aluminumtrailer.com/open%20car%20haulers. Kinda wish I'd just gotten the 16' actually.

what do you guys think about an Xterra for towing the evo around?

the wife's favorite SUV is the Xterra so we are considering buying one but i also want something we can use to tow a trailer with the Evo or whatever else.

i was considering the new EcoBoost from Ford but i really do not need 2 truck/suv's

if we do get the Xterra i plan on getting an intake, exhaust and definitely going to superchip it.
