Official 2013 Formula One Discussion Thread
Everyone started on intermediates and the track was drying rapidly; that's why teams came in so early.
Oh really? Gee, I thought it was because the drivers loved pitting so much. [I kid]
Smart for who? Certainly for RBR, who wanted to ensure their 1-2. Smart for Vettel? Less so. That 7 point swing could be rather vital down the road - he only won by 3 points last year, for example, and it's abundantly clear that there are going to be bad races due to tires.
Smart as far as keeping solidarity in the team. Look, I cannot stand Webber. I am a Seb supporter all the way. BTW, you should be over at Speed's forums. There were 250 posts alone about Webber not quitting RB. I am known over there for my Vettel support, much to the ire of the Ferrari fans.
If Vettel wins #4, nobody will give two ****s about him passing Webber, who still doesn't get that he's a #2 for a reason.
That is true too. But, you have to factor in what Dieter Mateschitz has had to say about this. He has made it clear that he backs Webber in this. In fact, several F1 sites had articles about Hamilton begging Bernie to help him to get a ride with Red Bull. Mateschitz made it clear that he was loyal to Webber and that if Webber wanted to drive in 2013, he would have a seat with Red Bull. FWIW, I want Seb to win his 4th title and his 5th and 6th and 7th. If they could all be with Red Bull, then fine. But, there is already talk or Kimi moving to Red Bull for 2014. I still say that Seb will go to the Scuderia within 2 years time.
Aside, but I saw more than a few friends griping on FB about the race and the outcome. I see why, but the rules on tires, engines, and whatnot pretty much guarantees this is how F1 will be. Get in the lead and coast.

I have mixed feelings about the tire package. We asked for more entertaining racing and we got it. The drivers don't really like it obviously, and it seems somewhat synthetic, much like some NASCAR races. The 1 stop races where the tires barely degrade and there's not a single pass after the first lap aren't much fun to watch, either.
So... yeah.

Got my seat tickets again in Turn 12 at the end of the DRS Zone! Can't wait! Just need a helicopter this year. I think I was in the minority who actually drove and walked the mile to the grand stands.

WOW, the conspiracy theorist's will have a fun one with mark webber vs red bull.
Couldnt have happened to a better DCK HD!
I watched the nbc or who-ever's new broadcast & I liked how they played up the drama between vettel & webber. I took their spin on the situation + all the comments noted that it was a bit of vettel getting back @ webber for his actions & comments from brazil.
I know when i worked with drivers in the cart series, they didnt forget $hit & most of them made it a point to shut the door or not offer any room when the oppurtunity presented itself to get back @ other drivers..... it didnt matter if it was 2 weeks or 2 months prior, they definately made it a point to payback the love!
Looking forward to this season.....
Hami is looking like "the man" for making the switch @ the moment. We will know for certain when the chequered flag falls in Brasil.

oh snap, my boy hami is back on the top again. McLaren looks they they are struggling just to stay in the top 10. lets see now seb handle the traffic on the first few laps with less grip tires. he's used to starting out front with clean air and pulling out a few seconds lead the first couple laps. his tires will shine after the first few laps but the other guys probably pulled away a bit. his advantage is being able to stay out longer the first stint, and then used the soft on the last stint when the car is lighter with less fuel, so the soft should last longer.

Well, Alonso sure had the field covered today, didn't he? I kind of figured that Lewis' tires would go off early as the Mercedes and RB seem to have issues with the softs lasting very long. Kimi sure drove a smooth race and pocketed some more points. I have to say I am very disappointed that Seb could not pass Lewis on that last lap. Those last 5 laps were classic Vettel. He reduced the gap to Lewis to almost nothing until that last turn when his car seemed to understeer. And, Webber seems even more hapless than he is as he now has a 3 place grid penalty for his deal with Vergne. Those points that Seb took at Malaysia may well be needed at the end of the season. Oh well, onward to Bahrain.
