RE71R where are you
Hey man, I'm NNJR as well and have been on RE71's since August of last season. They are phenomenal at the Meadowlands... actually they are pretty much awesome everywhere. I haven't experienced them fall off much at AX (or track for that matter) as others who posted here except when I over-drive the car and get them excessively hot. With that said I've found that they actually like the heat, I've tried wetting them down on several occasions and they dont seem to like it. As for wear, they wear super fast! I'm at 3 track days and 15-16 autoX with only driving to and from events (total of about 3k miles) and they are pretty bald, not down to the cords but looking like if I'm lucky I can get 1 more track day or like 4-5 AX's. Even with all the wear these tire still grip strong and handle great. Bottom line is that I would DEF recommend and will be ordering a new set shortly... I'm just torn between 275 or 285, I do rev out at the meadowlands with my 265's so 285's may make it worse. If only they made a 295/30 all would be good in the world!

The tire can be driven for 1-2 laps and put in NT01 lap times without overdriving the tire (excessive howling, driving through understeer, or oversteering out of corners). But it can only do that for 1-2 laps, then it falls off. I think was in this thread that someone posted about have a conversation with a bridgestone rep who told him that the RE71 reall had a temp range of 110-150*. If you're not getting your tires above 180* on a track, you're not driving the car very hard. After a cool down lap at my last track day, my NT01's had an average temp of 195* across the tire...

The front-heavy Evo is hard on tires, and the problem is worse when class-limited to narrower tires. The Miatas on 245 RE-71Rs and the S2000s on 255 RE-71Rs never have any issues with fall-off here. But the S2000 corner weights are under 700 lbs up front, whereas the Evo front corner weights are around 1000 lbs. Then the Evo fronts have to deal with AWD power as well, while the S2000/Miata fronts are just along for the ride.
For AX in STU, the situation is much better with the 265s than it was with 245s, but I'm still dealing with it.
Our local AX region also tends to do more runs than normal. It's not uncommon for us to have 10-12 runs in a day, so I'm often doing 6 back-to-back runs. Maybe 7 with a rerun in there, but if it gets to that point I usually call it early because the tires won't be up to the task at that point.
If the Rival S ever becomes available in 265/35R18 I'll try a set. My original (non-S) Rival was a decent tire with good heat handling capacity.
I guess I haven't noticed the drop off as my lap times both on AX and track tend to remain consistent and even getting a bit faster. This unless I over-drive the car which at my last Evolution driving school I was told that I do (cant disagree with the instructor as I notice it myself sometimes) with an adjustment (i.e. not over-driving) my times got faster and tires remained consistent. With that said, when I do push the car/tires I do notice the tires fall off... I guess then wetting would proce beneficial. These are just my opinions/experience... to each their own I guess. I wonder if camber plays a roll as im -3F and -2R.
I'm definitely not slow, and if I'm not pushing the tires, then that would make me feel like a stud LOL
I do get some howling and I very rarely push the car into under or over steer. Maybe once or twice while exploring limits on the course.
Maybe I need to push the car harder.
2.8°F, 1.6°R camber.

I like the RE71s so far. I prefer it to the ZII and AD07. I have never used RS3's so no point of reference there.
My evo is sub-3K lbs., full Ralliart bushings, front and rear sway bars, and MCS coilovers 10k f/11k r.

It's over pretty quick and only the 5 runs. The cost per min of seat time is horrible compared to HPDE. The only reason I still do it is because I have friends out there and its 10min from my house. LOL
I just looked and they seem to average about 40-50 people per event. They start at 9am (closer to 10am, really), break for lunch for 30mins (turns into about 45ish), then end around 5pm, or so.
It's always been 4-5 runs which is the #1 reason I'm kinda against it. As a non-member, i pay $45 per event. Even at the $30 member price, and considering 46sec lap times, that equals almost $8/min of seat time.
compared to 100mins for $200 at Buttonwillow LOL ($2/min seat time).

Just not worth it, IMO. But don't try telling that to the "cool kids" out there. They get really, really defensive when you say anything negative about AX LOL.
It's a horrible value.
Here's the last event. No lunch break, they were done by noon, to avoid the crazy heat. They were in and out in less than 3.5hrs, from what i understand.

Have smaller run groups and try to run car through with only 2-3min breaks between runs. A few of us just take our allowed 5 min so we are not hot lapping the **** out of the tires and cars
Is this a small car club running this? Or this the a regional SCCA club. Just asking because SCCA rules dicktate 5 min between run. I know our SCCA group some times
