Yes, the side with the belts. The front case bolts onto the front of the block and has the oil pump and balance shafts in it. There are 4 shafts seals and 2 gaskets that all seal on it. But yea if you brought your car to them and they had it apart and it's leaking now then you should definitely have them take it back and fix their mistake.

furthering the narrowing process, one other symptom - it leaks without running. the car's been up in the air overnight, and i've wiped the floor down. i checked, new oil on the ground today. what else besides the oil pan holds/encounters oil enough when cold to leak? i'll hop back down under the car to look, but I'm surprised by that.

took a look - same spot as the picture previously, right around that metal hole by the oil pan. i would have thought it was the oil pan, if i didn't know it wasn't leaking previously.

In most cases the lines get in the way of removing the timing cover so it I'd imagine it was disconnected on the engine side.

 

oh i was just answering your question. well this why i keep everything OCD-level clean and dry and do the paper towels, oil drips just get passed around and slow to drip. if that leak starts from the VC then it will take a while for it to drip all the way down. maybe get yourself a sprayer and fill it with some degreaser. if your engine was clean you'd spot the leak easier

 

Can you take a picture of where you're talking about? If its where I'm thinking it is, it's easy to have a leak there if the silicone is applied to the oil pan flange incorrectly.

 

It didn't leak before engine job though, and the pan wasn't touched when they did the head, which is why I'm thinking it's something else that they did.

 

why is your axle wet? that could be flinging oil around

 

it's prob getting dripped on. there's a fresh drop after the car's been sitting, so it's not the axle flinging onto the pan or w/e.

 

also check the underside of the manifold. lots of oil can stay suspended there

 

That's not the spot I was referring to, so disregard my comment.

Only think I can think of having a leak there is possibly the mivec line (if the oil is coming from all the way up by the head). Still weird for it to leak when not running,

 

maybe it was still winding down, i wiped everything down and put a towel down, let's see if it continues

 

Check the dipstick tube and that the o ring is still there and seated properly. If they pulled the head chances are they had to disconnect this and remove it. Its easy for the o ring to slide up the tube or pinch as u press it in.

Other common places you can leak oil around the back would be the PCV Valve area. I doubt anything from the timing cover area would throw oil back here without it leaking down the timing cover side also. Id say its not a major leak but its flicking onto your CV and getting chucked around.

I dont recall any manifold bolts on that side going into an oil gallery but maybe somebody who has a head off could confirm. My spare head isnt at my place so cant look.

 

So at the last competition round we really struggled with power in a straight line. It felt like the car was just off and wasnt making much power. We were getting our doors blown off by the big powered V8s in our class and made us a bit uncompetitive in the race as all our laptime was in the corners. I did a compression test etc to make sure the motor wasnt hurt and all came back fine so dropped the car off at the tuners to do some dyno running. He found a ignition lead was on its last legs so we replaced those with new ones. He optimized the ignition timing which seemed to be quite far out. made around 40 - 50hp more power in the mid range. Tuned up to 32psi and we are sitting at 680hp at the wheels which is plenty. G30-900 turbo on E85.

We wont run it on 32psi that will be more of a scramble boost setting if we need it but picking up that power in the mid range will definitely help and having the flexibility of picking different boost settings on the fly will definitely help. Wont be taking a knife to a gunfight this time.
