yeah bar's leak used to be some farmer's solutions lol. they probably hired chemists since lol
I have/had some beat up old cars I "test" products on and yeah the lucas ones dont work either. That's why I was blown away by these new ones with 2 liquids-bottle. I used to clean my wife's parking spot on the driveway weekly with e85. I havent seen a drop of pS fluid since a few days after putting some of this in. now i dont know what to do with the e85 i drain from my evo

I don't see a reason to move to an electric pump, it ultimately ends up adding weight and you're only saving a few horsepower with it. You still have the hassle of dealing with a hydraulic steering circuit and adding another high draw electrical component (harder on alternator). An electrically assisted column makes more sense to me because you ditch the entire hydraulic circuit but they seem fairly unreliable and a bit quirky.

I'm fine letting a mechanical pump rob a few horsepower for the sake of keeping things reliable and simple, if I was that concerned with power I'd turn the boost up lol. Moving to an aftermarket racing pump that robs less horsepower than a stock pump, has adjustable assist, and can be rebuilt with easy and cheap to obtain parts seems like a no brainer, especially when it's cheaper than a stock pump.

Yea i guess these are all valid points.. one advantage to electric is being able to move that weight around to a better location

My only concern with a full electric setup would be the lack of feedback/feel. I did a MR2 pump conversion on a 993 recently and I'd probably go that route if and when this rebuilt pump goes out in my EVO.

Most of the time you end up adding more overall weight with lines and cables trying to shift weight around.

In most cases, if you arent limited by min weight I'll take less weight. And I also prefer to take less complexity if possible as well.

I still need to buy a pump to get measurements. The most it will need to fit is a new mounting bracket, but based on the measurements I've found online it may fit on the stock pump bracket with just a small adapter bracket.

The only other stuff needed to make it work would just be a new feed line from the reservoir and high pressure line to the rack.

And the only unknown left is figuring out how important the pressure switch is and if it can be deleted or if I need to figure out a new switch to replace the stock one. All I've seen the pressure switch used for is bumping up idle RPM when the steering rack hits a stop and causes a spike in power steering pressure which loads the engine more.

I think mine is also dying as well… any aftermarket hydraulic options that are half way decent, or are they all trash?

Might be time to the sell this car because it’s not worth the money to maintain it with every replacement part being discontinued…
