id go Haltech for an ecu but im sponsored by them so im biased

I had an original aim solo for a while and i did occasionally overlay with my data off my link but i didnt really find any benefit from doing this. The stuff youll really gain knowledge from is throttle position and brake pressure. and if u dont have e throttle and ur not logging brake pressure ur never going to get either of these.

I found generally you could just compare entry and exit speed to line on the google map overlay between laps to get gains

What are you guys doing to log brake pressure? Sensor on one of the calipers or at the master cyl?

All fuel injected cars have a throttle position sensor. You don't need drive by wire to log throttle position..

Whenever I get a system, I was assuming I would install a sensor on the pedal itself. AIM sells one, among others.

It's a bit of a pain to install those so I've always done Longitude G's to see how much my car is braking rather then how much I'm braking. For example the downhill into 10a at RoadAtlanta you don't need to stab the sh*t out of it but the G's show lap for lap how much the car is sticking and how late it transitions from the long straight accel. My throttle and brake data are wayyyy to inconsistent during a race for all the environmental reasons to judge. Another example is just barely pressing the brake to get the light to come on for the guy behind you so he brakes while your still accelerating according to the G's.

From the guys I listen to, Brake pressure is to A) compare to drivers on who is getting into it harder than the other, and B) looking at how you're coming off it and where. But that really is only valuable for us AutoX guys to compare against codrivers that may make the same lap time in a different way.

I keep on forgetting you all are talking CT9A's when you are talking about adding sensors for braking and g's. Evo 10 it all comes through CAN. :-/

A Haltech elite 1500 is at the top of my list right now. With the Aim stuff the whole package should come in around $2500 which really isn't terrible.

yea bias aside the haltech gear is really good tech and its well priced. their aim is to cement themselves in between motec and everybody else. basically offer a better product than the likes of link and aem etc but for similar pricing and give better value to the customer.

Brake pressure measured accurately can be an important tool esp if your looking for tenths but for the average person your probably not going to gain huge amounts as you can look at when you stopped accelerating and then your corner speed vs others to get a comparism.

Its only when your trying to extract that last bit out or if your in 1 make racing that it could be an important driver tool. Especially considering that youve got to install pressure sensors and break into brake lines etc etc.

Another option which you could do which would be especially easy if you had a pedal box is just put a potentiometer onto ur brake pedal same as what you use for e throttle on accelerator pedal which will measure pedal travel

I've never been able to "see" any channels on the OBD port by just plugging things in and listening. I've always assumed because these technologies don't speak MUT. So I've simply tapped the RPM and Throttle wires at the ECU itself. Old school 2003 zeitronix method. Since that worked I didn't really put much time into it.
