I read that thread... and laughed!

I have been tuning for a while now (going on I think 9 years, not evos but custom built racecars and standalones mostly)... and I have talked to and been judged by some VERY prestigious engine builders and tuners, even one of the head engine guys from Honda racing. ALL of them said the correct way to tune a car is on the road in about 3rd gear (depending on power) and log from the lowest RPM you can to the highest. Dynos are a nice tool, but the reality happens in 3rd gear on the street!

Not that I would ever let anyone besides Kevin and Denver work on my car or tune it. But lest say I did this guys would be the last person to tune my car. This guy is so cocky that right there shows you hes going to mess up. You should never brag about your self. Let your costumes do the talking for you.

Well what is the criteria for saying one is better?

I don't doubt that he can extract a few more HP since the feedback loop is a bit better controlled, but is a few more HP worth $200+ more? And I'm sure that retunes won't be reasonable as Evolution Dynamics is.

maybe a 1/4 mile run would be the criteria. the important part is the trap speed which should reflect the hp the car is making.

Well if Danny's shifting, noone wins (I keed, I keed). There's too much variable in a drag race (launch, shifting, driver, etc.).

Run the engine at 7krpm until one breaks? I mean, this is the dumbest challenge ever.

$/hp, $/ftlb? What's the valid success criteria?

btw the guy's advantage if they use a mustang dyno for tuning is that is replicates a real world street load so he would easily see if he is making more hp. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...reet-load.html

I find it funny since Kevin corrected my DYNO tuned Evo last summer haha. He will be tuning the so to be beast this saturday as well. I'm sorry but you just can't accurately replicate real world on a dyno 100% of the time. My car did great on the dyno however on the way home was knocking like a door to door salesman at the front door!!

You know, the thread likely wouldn't have been such a big deal if he didn't choose the most expensive dyno in Dallas to work out of. I think his tuning rate is more than fair, but $200 + $85/hr is simply too much money for a dyno IMO (of course, I'm a cheap bastard).

I second that!! It should be much closer to $50 an hour IMO.. I had alot of work done on my R32 thru them back when 007 and JT was working there doing VW stuff. They did great work and it is a nice shop but had I paid full price it would have been a little diffrent.
