DSM vs. EVO Dyno Day!

All:

So at the Winter Party today, someone mentioned if there was an idea for an event that we'd like to see to mention it on the NTEC boards. Well, this is something I want to see.

I'm tired of the DSM guys talking smack about EVOs over at dallasimports.net. I've seen statements from - "an EVO is just an upgraded DSM.. " to "your EVO only got 500whp from a 35R? I got 500whp with just a 20g!"

Ok. Let's put these claims/accusations to the test. Starting with stock turbos all the way to 16Gs to 35Rs to FP Blacks!

Who would be interested in representing the EVOs?

Depending on when this will take place I will be down. With a fp-black or fp red still undecided and E85 of course. I'm stock piling parts now.

We should look into renting out Autoscope's dyno facility since you can go vs. another car.

Mustang dynos are notorious for reading all over the board when it comes to comparing dyno to dyno, but comparing one dyno to another is always almost entirely useless and really shouldn't be done with much certainty. All that really matters is that both are calibrated equally and stay consistent throughout the day.

I'm just saying we should keep them on the horizon when thinking about putting together dyno-days and at least talk to them about the specifics.

Yea, I prefer COBB because their track record seems to be inline with a Dynojet. I know a lot of you have heard my story before, but yea, I dyno'd my car at Tuning Technologies in LA just before moving to Texas. COBB's dyno came within 5whp of my dyno in LA with no other changes to the car. That's my basis for trusting them. I dyno'd yet again after Kevin did his magic and it reads inline with the power numbers of other cars that dyno'd there. IOW, it's not reading high and not reading low either.

Every dyno reads differently and there is no such thing as the "correct" dyno. Each dyno measures whp differently so all results need to be taken with a grain of salt and realistically compared to only results generated on the same dyno. If Cobb's Mustang reads similarly to a DynoJet that would mean its a fairly high reading Mustang though. Not trying to argue with you or anything, just put a little basic dyno knowledge out there. If you prefer Cobb and want to set the event up there that is fine by me! I've never been to Cobb and wouldn't mind checking out their facilities.
