That's funny I've always been scared of the suburbs because of the supply of undeveloped land and possibility of having to compete with a builder when I went to sell my home. Plus Dallas puts us close to everything. In the end it really comes down to personal preference if he wants urban or suburban living.

There are four reasons I would not live in Dallas proper.

1. Due to city budget shortfalls they drastically cut police and firefighter benefits so low that they only get a maximum of two years of disability. Sorry but all the good cops and firemen left for Frisco and Plano and Mckinney etc etc when that change came down. No cop wants to really risk thier lives if they know its on thier dime.
2. Dallas cops will no longer respond to home buglar alarms unless a live person actually reports seeing criminals. They did this for both home and businesses. I have several clients that packed up and moved to Plano just because of this very fact. ( Thier business that is )
3. Dallas has personal property taxes that other citys dont. Its a minor amount but its there regardless. ( to be honest the amout you would pay in gas for the extra driving more than likely counteracts the taxes paid but for me its the principal )
4. The Dallas public schools are horrible now. There are few that are still decent but as a whole its garbage compared to Frisco, Plano ,Allen

I'll avoid posting the political reasons that Dallas has issues as well.
