Pointless NTEC chat thread
i missed this. Yeah i hear you.
I honestly, not sure if i will pick another QS bottle, engine seems damm loud at cold start which i dont like it. Another 1k more milies i will switch to t6 or PU 5w30 or 10w30.
I will definally get UOA.
What motor oil will you pick if you need pick up from local?

if i needed oil today, i'd go buy german castrol syntec if i could find it otherwise mobil 1 5w-30.
t6 is rotella?
what is PU?
no telling about about the noise. it could just be in your head simply because you were standing by engine while it was running with the hood up.

T6 is rotella, which easier to find for 5w40. Seems many people loves it.
And pennzoil ultra, i remember when they brought gf5 in market and i still do remember one of member @ (bobistheoilguy) tried out and posted picture of how his engine got cleaned. :0
Whether you like to admit it or not, Tom has a point. If you think of what an engine is, a highly sophisticated assembly of moving parts that work in perfect harmony only after thousands of hours of highly trained engineering, then it makes perfect sense to think that the choice of lubrication for that assembly also be chosen only through a very involved and precise engineering process.
For you to say essentially "I'm just going to try different oils until I think I found the best one" is just simply ignorant. The fact is there ARE people out there who have done this research and oil analysis at a much more scientific level than you are, and those people have already come to the same conclusions as everyone else in this thread.
If you put crap oil in a high strung turbo charged motor, you're asking for bad things to happen.
To address my Walmart comment, I wouldn't put Mobil1, or any other oil Walmart sells, in my car if you gave it to me for free. I only run Amsoil 20w-50 because the wizard who built my motor recommends nothing else. I've had over 7k miles off 600+hp daily driving without a single issue. I would be willing to bet $100 that this would not be the case if I had ran Mobil1 from the beginning. For the stock Mitsubishi motors, they have an EXACT recommendation for your motor. This goes back to the whole "engineering" thing. This is what Tom is saying. The only outcome of trying to "feel" for the right oil is pain and heartache.

^ Not try to be ethug or what. Im old enough and spent plenty times on forums to forums. seriously tho he talks like he has a problem with me so i just want to know his problem. I definally know where you guys coming from. But there is nice way to say and a$$ way to say it epcially when you dont even know a person.

i think the real issue is people are disgusted with the idea that a quaker state product is inside of an evo. while i wouldn't use it since i'm an amsoil ***** since birth, it's not a trash oil.
Damm if i change my oil with quaker state syn one more time, i think they are gonna take my car away from me

Everyone has their own fav oil in their car. And " best oil" meant to what will be my fav oil to me and my car. I know amsoil are great but there are others too.
ok, walmart (mobil 1) oil may not be for your specific motor but it is just fine for his... mitsu says so anyways.

I guess I should have specifically said Mobil1, but I thought it was apparent.

I have 132K mi. on my motor I bought the car with 32K mi.. I Run 30psi and meth daily and have for at least 4yrs with every turbo I have had. I also love to go drag racing and launch all the time on my stock t-case with an open front diff. I have been making roughly 400-450 whp the whole time while keeping my torque below 400wtq.
I bought a second t-case because everyone and their mother was telling me about how I was going to blow it up. Go figure.
I have used all types of oils but never AMS oil or anything else on FP's recommended oil list. I have even used O'reilly brand full synthetic
.
I know that I do not make as much whp as many and if I did I would most likely be more worried about what oil I put in. Especially if I had a built engine that has looser clearances.
Just my experiences...

A lady won the mega millions, so everyone should play the lottery. Just her experiences. ;-)
The point is, there is solid evidence of what oils are good, and what are bad. It's not a guessing game. Some get lucky, and others don't - but there is a right way to maintain the cars.
But, everyone can do whatever they'd like to their own vehicle, it doesn't hurt anyone else. We pointed out the facts, and whether he listens or not is up to him, and doesn't impact anyone else at all. So good luck, I do hope your bearings last as you experiment with oils.

lol...Could you show me some of the evidence pointing to bad oils for motors with stock bearing clearances?
What facts have been shown in this thread? All I have seen is people spitting what they read from someone selling them something.
I believe that for a built engine with looser clearances, that a thicker oil would be beneficial. Will you bearings seize simply because you did not use the oil given to us from the gods? No. If it makes you feel better go for it. I am sure that there are many on these boards on the brink of destruction for not using AMS oil.
I will buy some AMS oil and some Walmart oil, maybe even some O'reily brand and run each for 3k mi. and send it in for lab testing. I bet that each one is still good for me to run at that point. With none being out of desired spec. Only maybe I could get away with running the AMS oil longer (just a guess),while paying much more.
Maybe then someone could have some proof and factual information to provide. Instead of just marketing hype and hear-say.
I hope that I am wrong and that AMS oil will be the miracle oil that makes my engine never have an issue. I will post the facts.
Any oil that people would like to see me test. It has to be for a stock motor.

I will start a collection of UOA I can find regarding our cars and various oils as well as my own findings.
Here is one... using mobile one recommended by Black Stone to try a 5000mi interval next time instead of simply 3000mi as the first test was done.
Here is an AMS oil UOA...http://www.midwestevos.com/forums/sh...005-Evo-8-(E85)
Here is a thread on this forum that has a ton of info...https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...g-testing.html
I have not found one that was out of spec so far. There was one that had a few road course days that was a little bit high but that was it.
I am not seeing an oil significantly better than the other. I wonder what I will see when I do my testing.
