id be careful with a 4b11 and upgrading the turbos. theres a thread somewhere on here about a guy going with a gt30 and conservative tune and he put a window in the block. best thing to do is research it and see.

yeah, I am looking into what the engine is capable of. Going to give a couple calls to cobb, map, evoD sometime soon when I get a chance and get more opinions on how I should progress this build. Thanks for your input though. I want to get this right first time around, so I won't second guess myself and end up with a rod through my engine lol

the issue is the 4b is entirely aluminum (if i remember correctly, even i make mistakes.....frequently) and it does do well when you put 450+ but people have had failures with 400-435. in the rsx world guys are always blowing their motors up cuz they cant handle it. blowing out a chunk of the block is not uncommon. usually when guys go for 450+ they have sleeves installed. i know your range is less, but when you hit the 400's in my opinion you start to push it.

i commend you on trying to do it right the first time. i always say spend the money big on the right stuff then spending way too much getting it after the other **** blew your engine.

or

if you go cheap you go expensive fixing what cheap broke.

research is your friend

400-450 is doable if you keep the tq low and even. Calvin can do this for you no problem. You want more, build the engine. You don't need to research any of this, I did it all already for you. Cobb can get you whatever power level you desire, just give them a budget and they'll tell you what you can do safely

MAP EF2 here and making 416whp on pump gas/stock block/stock cams/stock clutch. I daily-drive the car over 20k miles a year and it's proven to be a very reliable setup.

Wondering how much power the stock block on the 2011 X can hold? Saw a MAP EF3, everything ported with 3" anti-surge compressor housing for sale, 1700$ brand new, and leaning towards taking it off the sellers hands. Any opinions?
Just simply follow what Tom or Chris or any other of the numerous 400+hp Evo X owners in the club have done. It's easily doable with the right combination of parts and if you're a smart owner.

I had 400tq/375hp on E85. Stock turbo, internals, cams, etc. Full bolt ons and a real clutch though. Be very, very vigilant of your spark plugs.

^There was a shop like that up in MN for a year or two. I think it was the cost of insurance and stolen tools that drove them under. It's a cool idea though. I wonder if it's air conditioned?

I hope they did their homework on the market for this, I think DIY guys tend to be cheapskates, myself included. But if someone can make this work somewhere, this is probably the place to do it.

my advice would be switch to e85 and stay on stock turbo until you can build your motor. On e85 you can get close to 400. I think Matt did 380ish. If you really want to see that 400 number the green or ef2 is good. Just tune conservatively and check your spark plugs every 3k miles and change them every 10k miles. Lots of plugs going bad these days.

Anyone going to Cars and Coffee tomorrow? Family is out of town so I might take the 930 out. Tried to drive it to work today but the battery was dead (hasn't been driven in 5-6 weeks). It's on the trickle charger now.

Good to know guys, thanks for the advice. I don't want to push it too much on a stock block. Most likely I will have something similar to Kracka's setup.

I'll be there tomorrow at the Cars and Coffee meet. What time is good to show up and have a decent parking spot? It's my first time going, haven't had a Saturday off in a long time.
