so after leaving my car at south park mitsu for two days, the problem still remains illusive.

they defintely heard it, they definitely checked everything in the front passenger side suspension. in fact, they even called a special evo "tech" line and they had the guys dissasemble the entire front passenger side spring/shock assembly, test all the pieces, and put it back together, but nothing was out of place.

oh well. just going to drive it now until the noise gets worse, or something breaks.

in any event, i think i will be sitting out any autoX this weekend.

the rest of you guys enjoy carlisle, i'll be partying up at conneaut.

cheers.

it's just a non descript "donk" kind of noise coming from the front passenger side.

it happens usually on wide right sweeping turns going under 15mph, and sometimes when backing out at certain angles.

south park isn't the only place that this has confused though. biondi blamed it on my rear sway bar, and the tire shop (that i had coincidentally been at the day the noise started, to get new tires) didn't have a clue either.

so i dunno. it's one hell of a gremlin.

mondo thats odd. Has it hindered your handling? Have you noticed on the sweeping turns when you hear this noise that your losing grip in the front or plowing the turns. If you can give me a an idea of what its like when your driving and the reactions you feel i can make a few calls for you.

that's the thing, aside from the noise and sometimes a slight thump under my passenger foot there is no performance degradation to speak of.

and it only happens at very slow speeds. it could just be that i haven't taken a turn hard enough at speed to produce the sound, but i've been trying.

everything seems kosher so far. that is the most confusing part to me.

Mondo....Have your front subframe checked....Maybe one of the welds cracked and its allowing metal to metal contact under pressure and snapping back on each other creating a clonk or ping as stress is applied to it...I work at an audi/porsche dealer and we've had 2 brand new Audi A6's with that problem...the culprit was a bad welding job on the subframe from the factory...so if I were you...I would tighten the subframe bolts and see if persists or goes away..If you do tighten the bolts and the sound gets louder...Then its definitely your subframe...These cars endure alot of stress from the stiff suspension componenets and the amount of power the drivetrain puts out...Wouldnt hurt to check it out tho...Jus my .02 Good luck

O btw dude i jus remembered....My 04 Evo did have a clink on the front passenger side of the suspension during low speeds or by turnin the wheel at low speed....I always believed it to be the control arm....But I tightened everything underneath and it was still there..So my best guest to that problem was that the control arm ball joint wasnt fillled with enough grease to supress the sound it makes.....Only happened on the right front no where else..But its a sealed joint so i had to live with it....But maybe your problem is different...Just see maybe if they can warranty your lower control arm...Other than that im outta guesses....

thanks devil. i will definitely mention it to them next time i take it in.

i think i am gonna drive for a little while, see if the noise gets any worse, then take it back when it does.

i got a nice long drive up to almost erie this weekend, so if the problem is going to get worse, it will defintely progress on my trip.

it only happens when i make right hand turns.

thanks for the link man, trenton nj is a little bit of a hike though.

i'm gonna check it out in depth on some nice country backroads and parking lots this weekend. hopefully i will be able to come up with a better description at least of the sound and location.

I decided I am going to have a daily driver that is stock and get a serious race car that will run in the 9's or 10's (trailer it). I am about as far as I can go with the EVO now and if I go for more performance...I am looking at a bigger turbo, etc. It won't be as much fun to drive. As it is now...the Tilton clutch is fantastic when pushing the car thru the gears...but for everyday driving...sitting in traffic, its too noisy.

I am not going to force myself to sell it...but I figured I throw it on eBay and see if I can get a decent price for it. I won't give the car away..and if I don't sell it...oh well, I'll just have to wait longer for the drag car.
