I've used a few different oils, and always came back to M1. I don't use the high mileage stuff, but I still change ever 3k no matter what. I started doing alot of research on oils, and it got me to think people read into it way too much. I've read one scientist say that oils are so good these days, that car owners should be more concerned with the oil filter they run. Yes, there is much more to oil filters than just the filtration paper. With that, I've always used the M1 filter, as it has proven to be one of the best on the market. I like Amsoil when I used it, but I just got sick of having to order all the time.

Maybe I need to start using high mileage, who knows. For a car with 120k and hasn't shown signs of problems, I think I'm alright. Need to do the blacklab test....

I have over half a dozen blackstone lab oil analysis done on various oils from RP to Redline to Mobil to AMSOil to Motul and all of them came back as being fine for what I do with my car. IMO, there probably isn't a bad oil out there. you just have to use the correct weight for your application and change it often.
That's exactly what these cars require. Even synthetic vs dino there's little difference in protection levels. It's mainly down to how well they clean off deposits which synthetics are better at.

Tell your Dad to take it to Mitsu and let them fix it. I can't imagine his car is out of warranty? Why pay for it...?

Hopefully it's not a timing chain issue.. I use the best oil for my turbo. I have an FP red so the turbocharger bearings being under the stress they are benefit from zinc.. I run amsoil and change every 10k miles with an absolute efficiency filter and my cyl head looks mint. My combustion chambers and valves look like that of a 30k car from the ETH as well.. I am about to hit 90k BTW..So I now have 70,000 on my Exedy Twin HD all original Original brake rotors too LOL.. I will try to post the pics of my cyl head and engine block from when I had the head off the car around christmas
