I like Autox but I would like to practice a bit more instead of on the track, where is a good empty lot to setup a few cones? Has anyone tried this?

I thought about doing that. actually I went to a big parking lot near my house once when it was raining to practice the skid pad. problem with going by yourself and setting up cones, at least as I see it, is that you need a way to measure your improvement. in other words you need a way to time yourself. all the driving books I've read say the same thing; just because something 'feels' fast doesn't mean it actually is, in the end the clock is always right.

Yes, I am planning on it. I am rolling with a few Reading peeps, so I'll see you guys there. I plan on arriving about 12 noon. You could always check out the auto-x first thing at 9, then meet with the crew and roll to the meet.

everyone says that and I honestly don't know why, its not like there is any pressure perform. these events are setup around helping new people have fun. they have novice meetings, novice course walks and instructors for free to help you out all day. I haven't been at this long, only a couple years, but I stll try and take an instructor along with me every chance I get.

nobody is even paying attention to your runs. everyone else there is too worried about their own times, not what the other person is running, unless that other person is the guy who is faster then them in their class.

above all that you just have to remember that every person you see there at some point had their first event, and we all still remember what it was like.

Which is why i plan to come on the 25th and "check" it out. Slowly assimilate myself with you auto-x'ers. Being a bench racer is so much easier, though

Yeah I was thinking of having at least one other person around for keeping time. I have a co-worker who is interested in coming out he has a Acura and we could trade off, one times the other. I wish there were some way to set up a cheap timing system. As long as your within a second or so it should be good.

The people who Autox are a helpful bunch, I think you will be fine to just go in and do what you can no matter if its your first time or not. The atmosphere is more lets have fun and enjoy it, not like you have a panel with judges and high pressure to perform. There isn't a huge group of people watching you waiting for you to screw up. Seriously, go out the first lap and get around without going off course, then take a lap with the instructor to see how quick it can be done. Then just have fun trying to do the best you can with what you have.

Just jump in head first. It would be a good idea to run now on you stocker suspension and then see the difference in you new coils. At least that is what I would do

Actually, this will annoy your typical autocrosser more than anything. That and talking about yourself too much :P

You should just try it. And +1 on keeping the stock suspension for a bit.

Why not this Sunday, little more relaxed than your typical event? Then u can come check out and try the real deal on the 25th. I understand why it can maybe seem intimidating to start, but they don't call it solo for nothing... all about u and your car, solamente

It's damn fun, sure to put a large on your face
