Could prolly get it for less since it's in the area. I got one from a vendor (Evoparts-R-Us, on here for $1100 shipped, mint condition VIII block. He even gave me a copy of the title and the junk-yard receipt for the motor.

My understanding is that the helper springs help accommodate the overall loss of travel you see with a shortened spring. Under a full droop situation the spring would unseat itself depending on the ride height of the vehicle. The helper is there just to fill the void and not provide anything to the actual overall spring rate.

So I'm right?...since helpers collapse when the car is seated on all fours. So it really is for droop travel, and nothing more. Does this mean me springs will unseat itself in corners, or when I put it on a jack, once I lower my car? Given the fact that I do not have helpers on my coilovers?
No, no. It wasn't for me. It was for someone else, who aren't on the forums. I do have a set of GG fenders, fornt and rear bumper, VIII tails, and a few other things! lol. I saved Will with a IX lip I had when the snow claimed his! lol. I guess I just buy things when it seems like a deal...like the axle that sat in the basement for almost a year, and I ended up needing!

I remember reading a lengthy post in here that was related to Vorshlag's parts development on a white X. They had A TON of listed information on their suspension set up, justifying why each change was made along the way. They started with basic coils and kept adding from there. They did talk in length about helper springs, I know they never ran them because the travel seen under driving conditions didn't warrant their necessity.
Really only thing to worry about is the length of your spring and can it compensate a fully slacked or drooped travel condition. The higher overall length in a less stiff spring needs the extra travel so it doesn't bottom out on itself under full loading. This then jacks your spring rate up to infinity, no bueno. A much stiffer spring doesn't need the extra travel length, so Marc is correct there. Get a shorter spring with higher rates, be able to sustain a lower ride height, and most likely not need a helper.
Very simple explanation really, there's quite a bit more that goes into a proper selection and coordination components in an individual setup.
Hope this helps.
Have two pics below, helpers are on but are on the top, but from the angle it doesn't show them at all. Either way the coils in the box have the helpers on them to show their puny status compared to the main spring.

I wonder if I would be able to add helpers to my setup, as it does not come with them from the factory. I dont like the idea of the spring unseating when one side of the car is at full extension. It wouldn't matter at full height, but I want to lower 1 inch, and that would give the spring that much play room when I'm lifting.
Done/
Fixed.
