Do you respond to codes? We are a teaching hospital. They obviously don't need me. Whenever they call a code in ICU it's the attending, residents, interns, students, PA, PA students, two general teaching teams, anesthesia, and several nurses. The pharmacist usually just stand there along with the many others and just watch.

Last week I had a lady laryngospasm on me. The nurse freaked out wanted to call a code. I just jammed a 14 French suction catheter down her trachea and suctioned the **** out of her and she chilled out. She was a schizophrenic so it was likely a conversion disorder. ****'s crazy. Major tardive dyskinesia. 69 yo but looked more like 99 yo.

 

yup we participate in codes. our director caved years ago when the MD's and everyone basically wanted to remove any drug accountability from themselves, yet we get no advanced code/ACLS training. i could go on for days about how unsafe my facility is for my department because my director is in the pocket of management and not standing up for her department.

 

I have to do ACLS/advanced code certification every two years and I'm not even utilized, which is fine with me. They even talked years ago about me being the troubleshooter for things like NGT's but that would have been ridiculous and technically out of my purview.

Isn't your hospital labor and delivery type facility? Or is it a general hospital for just women? How's many codes do you have in a labor/delivery department (I guess I'm not accounting for c section stuff).

 

we wind up with a lot of bleeders...but we also do a lot of womens oncology, and when your dealing with cancer you have no idea what youll find when you cut em open.

yesterday was fun but kinda frustrating. there are some dudes in our run group who don't believe in giving point bys for some reason. for the last shession me, tim, pete, chu, nick and some others all went out together like a wolf pack. we were tearing ish up but a couple butt hurt V8 guys must not having working mirrors in there cars cause we'z was behind their asses for laps and they weren't giving it up.
