so in todays edition of WTF am i doing...

played around with the SPC gauge today. with both camber bolts set to to the "max" setting, i have the pass side camber plate set to max camber and its reading a tad over -3. i have the drivers side set to min camber and its reading almost -3.8....uhhh what? shouldnt settings side to side be relatively similar?

without making any toe adjustments it appears the drivers side is just about 0 and the pass side is almost a 1/4 inch.

i still dont trust myseld with the gauge...this sucks

somethings wrong... The 2 sides won't necessarily match, but with camber bolts set to max camber and camber plates you should get more negative camber than that.

1st check to see if you're on level ground
2nd Check to see if anything is bent
3rd check the camber bolts to make sure they aren't worn or turned wrong (it happens)

How did you measure toe? Did you box out the car or did you eyeball the steering to see if its straight, then measure front and back of wheel?

im not doubting something is wrong with the car, the way things are playing out here it certainly seems to be the logical explanation. the drivers side wheel area was hit two years ago. i backed the car into the garage to test on a different surface and with the gauge zero'd im getting the same readings as before. i have the arrows on the factory bolts pointed towards the wheel (outside of the car).

the spc gauge has a toe arm attachment that lets you hook in a tape measure and run it to a reference line on the other side of the car. i really need a second set of hands tho. i think i need to just leave the camber wherever it is and get the toe zero'd and then worry about swapping control arms over the winter.

my passenger side is definitely measuring 1/4" toed in right now which is almost a full degree. id say its safe to assume that even before flipping the bolt the toe was definitely not zero and probably enough to pretty much cord that inner edge like it did.

1/4" will kill a tire quickly. You're using toe plates which are ok, but if u want precise alignment, set up string box around the car. Set the string at hub height on each side of the car, measure off the hubs to square off the string lines. Now u have a accurate reference point to set the toe on all 4 wheels

If I accomplish some of the task on my to-do list, I may take off Monday. Looked at my calendar through year-end and I have a ton of vacation days left I need to use up. Looks like I'll be taking off the last two weeks of Decemebr at the moment.
