I haven't heard anything about that passing legistlation. I would pay the 75 bucks not to ever have to have a front plate. I know the state would make a good amount of money off of it.

I've had numerous warnings for no front plate as I've never had one installed on any of my cars. Funny how I've only been pulled over for it in my GSX and now in the Evo but what can you do? I got one ticket in the Eclipse and just got one about a month ago in the Evo. Went to court with pictures of it mounted on the mesh and got them both thrown out, paid no fine at all. It's a minor inconvenience to go to court every so often for it but worth it to me to keep the front of my cars plateless.

just because some people got away with it or that the law is not equally enforced does not make it legal.
however, if you make a good case(or a good attorney) there are exceptions.

The statute, for reference:

RCW 46.16.240. Attachment of plates to vehicles--Violations enumerated

The vehicle license number plates shall be attached conspicuously at the front and rear of each vehicle for which the same are issued and in such a manner that they can be plainly seen and read at all times: PROVIDED, That if only one license number plate is legally issued for any vehicle such plate shall be conspicuously attached to the rear of such vehicle. Each vehicle license number plate shall be placed or hung in a horizontal position at a distance of not less than one foot nor more than four feet from the ground and shall be kept clean so as to be plainly seen and read at all times: PROVIDED, HOWEVER, That in cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate therefrom may be granted by the state patrol. It shall be unlawful to display upon the front or rear of any vehicle, vehicle license number plate or plates other than those furnished by the director for such vehicle or to display upon any vehicle any vehicle license number plate or plates which have been in any manner changed, altered, disfigured or have become illegible. License plate frames may be used on vehicle license number plates only if the frames do not obscure license tabs or identifying letters or numbers on the plates and the plates can be plainly seen and read at all times. It is unlawful to use any holders, frames, or any materials that in any manner change, alter, or make the vehicle license number plates illegible. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate any vehicle unless there shall be displayed thereon valid vehicle license number plates attached as herein provided.

Or maybe the cop was being a b*tch? Yeah I think thats how it went. Yeah the state probably would make a lot of money of ppl paying $75 but they might make more if the police enforce it more and give out more $101 tickets. oh well we'll see what happens. But with the ppl not running them just be careful.

In order to mont a front plate on the IX's, you need to drill 2 13mm holes in the bumper. For this reason alone I did not buy from Harbor Point, and bought from Mountain, where they do not mount the front bracket.

What my friend did on his Elise was to take two strips of aluminum about 4"L X 3/4W each with a 90deg bend. The plate is screwed to the aluminum, and then using that extra strong velcro, he stuck it to the bottom of his bumper. This seems to hold pretty well, and is what I will do when I get my plates.

I got pulled over once for no front plate in my old Integra (not yet for my Evo, *knock on wood*) . I was coming home from a car show and told the cop so. I had it in the back seat and she told me to put it on as soon as I got home. While I was actually at a show (watching, not actually in the show), the plate never was and never did go on the car.

put it in your window with suction cups. I have been pulled over for having my brights on and they didn't say anything about my plate in the window.

It's the law... you can't really complain when you get a ticket for not following it.

WA is working on no longer requiring it however. Not sure where that actually is in the process though.

I've lived in Vancouver, WA and the Portland area for the past 6 years now and only had an issue once with no front plate.
