I'm missing the point of what lacking the ability to speak has to do with typing.

I'm not being rude, just confused is all. :-D

Didn't read the whole post but there is no need to drill your bumper. Just put double-sided tape on the third attachment point that is supposed to get drilled. Mine has held like that since I got it over 2 years ago. The other 2 attachment points use bolts for existing holes.

Don't fret about the front license plate man, it looks so cool that the factory bothered to offset it for the intercooler. I think it adds personality.

Sorry to bring this post back. I-908 is the initiative that goes up for a general vote on November 7th this year. It gets rid of the requirement for a front license plate. You have to be a registered voter, and go to your local place of voting on the 7th of November!

I went back to Silverdale this past weekend, got off on the Newberry Hill exit and before I was even halfway up the hill a local cop pulled me over for no front license plate. $101 ticket. I am going to go the route of mounting it, taking it down to the local WSP office and getting it checked to be sure, then taking all of that to the judge to see if he drops it. I also checked the IRLJ 6.2, which sets out monetary penalties for certain traffic citations. The ticket should only be $82, not $101. I will bring that up as well if the judge decides not to drop or lower it.

I know this thread was from awhile ago..

basically the RCW says if your vehicle does not have an area for a plate then you can take it to the WSP and request permission to not have to drill into your bumper... If they say well do it anyway... then they are just being a-holes...

I always thought if there isn't a place for it already pre-drilled from the factory then its not required... as far as ppl saying well what if the headlights were broken ... or the taillights if your stupid enough to buy the vehicle with broken lights and drive it like that... then you get back on your tricycle and keep pedaling... cuz your just dumb!!

from what i found out about this topic last summer is that basically as the law states WSP doesn't care if you dont have a spot to mount or not. The cop that stopped me told me when I mentioned the lack of mounting space "He didn't really care and neither does the State of Washington. When I took it to the WSP inspection site they looked at me and said looks like you can do 2 things 1. drill into the bumper and mount it our become creative and mount it without drilling. Then they told "but if it is not somehow securely fasened(sp) to the car it can too be a fix it ticket.

I opt'ed to just pay the ticket and not ruin my bumper.

By the way this is the Spokane Area WSP that were complete asshats too.

Regardless what your car is equipped with from the factory, a law is a law. I'm pretty sure you’re not except if there is something as minute as not having holes.

However for the whole WA thing not having a front plate mandatory, I think you would still run into issues with driving in other states. I believe you have to follow vehicle laws in the state you are in. Correct?

In general that is true, but for equipment issues, it is not. For example, tint is legal on the driver / passeneger windows in most southern states, but not up north. I don't think they could make you remove your tint, but I'm not sure on that one. In Michigan for example (I grew up there), they don't even provide a front plate for you. There's no way that they could enforce that rule in another state.

In general you are right, but I've heard stories of CA cops taking a razor blade and cutting the tint on people's tinted windows so they must remove it...even though the people were from out of state...

Imagine you have the kids packed up, and you are going to Disneyland. You get pulled over and a copyproceeds to slash your windows with a razor blade for no reason. Great impression of the People's Republic of California imrpinted on their little brains...

Also, when moving from Texas to Oregon, I couldn't drive through CA with my guns because 2 of them were illegal to posses in CA and I could have been carted off to prison as a felon...

Again, if you follow the laws such things won't happen. You can't really get pissed for having to pay the consequences you brought upon yourself.

I think a cop cutting your tint would be a very rare case really. You generally just get a fix-it ticket.

You can also get a doctors note saying you're eyes are sensitive to light to get around tint laws.

What I did on my car was legal on the sides and back. Then did 50% on the windshield. This blocks in light coming from there making the sides look darker. Cops in most cases are NOT going to check the windshield. It's something you don't really notice. This way if I'm stopped and they check the tint w/ the card I'll be legal while still having a darker look.

I suppose at every state border crossing in the country you should pull over and study every different law and regulation. It would be nice if they at least had a sign at each major border crossing stating all the things that make you an instant felon as soon as you enter the state.

From what I understand, the cops cutting the tint is not rare at all. At the tint shop where I had mine done, the guy running the shop was familiar with the practice, and when he was telling me about it, one of his customers said it happened to him once. It's complete horse**** if you ask me, just CA trying to enforce its laws on passers by.
