Question Advans + Snow = Scary Fun/Brown Stain

Had a couple of situations this evening where creeping up to an intersection in 1st gear engine braking and went to stop at the light she would not stop and yes, the clutch was in at the time. So my question is, when you're sliding along with the brake on in the snow/slush/ice/mud and you wanted to stop about 25 feet ago, ABS pulsing the pedal away under your foot, Keep standing on it? or Let off and re-apply? And I am (FYI) still on the stock advans.

Will most likely be sliding on down to Les Schwab tomorrow for a set of mud/snow tires any recommendations? I did do a couple of searches just wanted to know what the local guys are running.

Drive safe guys it's crappy out there. Almost 6" of snow at my house as of typing.

Aloha,
Ian

P.S. - I really, really, really like open parking lots! I have just discovered them and I am grinning again just thinking about it.

I am getting Bridgestone RE960AS's put on tomorrow morning. I've had enough of the stock Advans + snow combo myself.

Thanks guys, really leaning towards a good snow tire as I will be headed north (or east) for some snowboarding and can really only afford one set of tires at this time.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi, Nokian WR...kinda spendy. Hankook Icebear W300...for the budget snows.

If your stuck on going to Schwabs the Snowprox and the Garit KX dont look bad.

Get dedicated snows if your going to be up at the mountain this season...better to have 'em then to wish you did.

Not to many tire choices up here in PA so Les Schwab it is. I was really looking at the Blizzak LM-25's (tirerack) will call Les in the morning to see what my local store's got in stock, before I make the skii run down to them.

Thanks those were my thoughts exactly!

Where I live can't use the stock advans at all! I use the Hankook icebears or blizzaks. They work wonders in 9 months of snow and black ice conditions and averaging double digit below zero temps daily.

booo I didn't get to take the evo out today. I still have my summer set on and havent got winter tires yet. Didn't know it would snow so soon. So I just took the integra out and messed around, tires suck on them but it's just an integra.

Have fun everyone and be safe.

I was out playng around yesterday still in my summer tires(fulda quantum), and suprisingly it was somewhat difficult to get those puppies to lose traction. In snow mode, it was darn near impossible, but in tarmac, goosing the throttle hard was ticket for some sideways fun.

I should go get those icebears put on I have sitting around.

Driving in the snow/slush with my Evo was some scary times. Car was slipping and sliding everywhere. I felt like I was driving a hockey puck.

I got a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my car now. No more sliding around and I didn't get snow tires because I was looking at a 7 day wait to get them in. Going over Snoqualmie Pass today so that wouldn't work. Had to settle for All-Season tires.

I don't know about you guys but mine came with the"OEM tire not meant for winter use" sticker or something like that. If there was a snowflake on the ground the advans would find it and slip on it. I ended up buying a winter set and just splitting the duty.

Yeh I finally got some time driving my EVO in the snow with my Hankook Icebear snows on. Drives real good, running right up steep hills. Watched a pickup truck slam into the front of a accord at a intersection I was sitting at. Both no snow tires !! Be careful out there.

I can recommend BLizzak WS-50's. Both myself and my brother use 215/50-17's, they tear through snow and ice.

Try rolling around on 265 series tires with a nearly 3K curb weight.....like steam rollers in the big puddles, they float!
