Looks like its about 2 1/2 to 3 hours from PDX. And I disagree with your statement. Rain is not the best way to learn anything other then how rain effects your car. It doesnt give you any experience for what happens when your race tires let loose on a dry course. So in that effect, you need both.

i agree with some of the guys, rain is not the best way to enjoy driving. it might be fun but trust me, you dont want to hit 140 in a straight and break before turning while its raining.

OK...it's a better way to practice car control, IMO. The speeds are slower and everything is exacerbated so you learn to be smooth or you have to slow down until you are smooth. The rain really shows you true colors as a driver. It's a very good learning tool for going faster when it's dry. You just need to make sure you have the right tires. Shaved RA1's not a good idea, ask me how I know!!

I have run multiple track days in the rain at PIR and Texas World Speedway and Houston Motor Sports Ranch in my S2000 on somewhat bald S02's and did fine. You spend more time sideways, get to practice threshold braking more..it's a good time.

Eh.. rain is overratted. I like racing in the rain, sorts out good drivers versus typical drivers. You get good at driving in the rain at the limits and driving on dry pavement will be that much easier. Also you dont need AWD to be fast in the rain...its all in the driver.

Best time at PIR is 1:08, but not in the evo. Best time in the evo so far is a 1:22 with exhaust and suspension. Haven't been out there in a while so hopefully with a good running car and some better tires will be able to drop the times some more.

Wow! 1:22 is a phenomenal time! Thats quicker then most of the vipers and vettes in the SCCA! What tires where you running? Got a video of the run? I would love to see the line you used for that run. Next time you come down let me know. I would like to ride with you and see how you attack the corners. Are you doing trail braking into the turns then powering out?

Well, keep in mind that is sans-chicane so I don't think I was running that fast. Pretty much everything was stock on the car except for some JIC's and a turbo back. Typically all my times with the chicane are about 6 seconds slower. I'm hoping to get down to PIR when I'm back from my next trip and drop down those times.
