Portland DynoTune

Hello,
Since I am new here I thought I would setup an event to meet all you EVO owners and anyone else who is interested.

I am trying to setup an opportunity for us all to have our EVO's flashed with the DynoFlash software and tuned by Al on the AWD dyno here in Portland.

I have spoken with Al from DynoFlash and he wants to come out to Portland to DynoFlash and Tune our EVO's if we can get 8 cars to commit. That is 8 cars! I think this should easily be doable with all you guys from Oregon and Washington and wherever else. I will be one, so we need 7 more cars

This is a great opportunity! Stock EVO's alone are getting 30-40 whp. You might have also seen the post on the Pruven dyno day this weekend and the power people were getting from their setups. I think this is exciting and could be a really fun event.

If your not familiar with DynoFlash check out the forums (search for ‘dynoflash’) as there is plenty of information and this link:
http://www.DynoFlash.com

So...
Please let me know if you are interested by sending an email to : John@TheHaalands.com

I will update the post with those who are committed and post questions/answers anyone has.

Thanks,
John

I didn't want this to be a problem over which vender is used. Just trying to get a tuner out here. I personally like the no hassel and price point of the DynoFlash especially having experience with this stuff in the WRX world. But I am open to seeing which is the better way to go and what the majority of the people want.

I will look into both Vishnu who uses Xede and Al who uses his DynoFlash. I will get pricing on both.

People let me know what your preferences are! Again we need at least 8 cars to get the ball rolling.

Thanks!

I work with someone who just bought an Evo and would like to go with an XEDE. I chose the XEDE over a reflash:

1) I can't get over having to take out my ECU and send it to someone to tune my car. If someone came here and changed my ECU, I would need to send it to them to get any upgrades. With a reflash you pay and pay and pay.
2) I can tune my car whenever I want and it can grow with me.
3) I can make my car bone stock in a few hours (minutes to take off the XEDE, an hour or so for the exhaust).

If we are looking at Matrix as the location, you won't get 30-40whp on the Mustang dyno from a DynoFlash (you might be disappointed, the Mustang reads a bit low depending on the settings and Matrix is fairly conservative). DynoFlash doesn't do any mystic voodoo, they simply control the timing, a/f and boost. Nothing more. The XEDE makes excellent power and can grow to suit your needs. Shiv is an exceptional tuner and shares his knowledge in an effort to help you know and tune your car yourself.

So, no issues over the vendor. If you can get 8 Evo's that would be awesome. I would love to meet Al, he's a legend and I respect his intellect. All I can say is that if it were Shiv, you would have two up front with myself and a coworker.

By the way, we probably have some mutual friends. I hang with the Suby crowd more than the Evo crowd (where are all the Evos???). Shhh.. Don't tell anyone. HAHAHA.

Hey,
Well if we can get 8 people to do Xede then certainly I would set this up. That means we have potentially 3 cars for Xede and 1 for DynoFlash.

Is there anyone else out there interested? Have opinions? I hope there are more of you out there wanting more power out of your cars.

Post away or send me an email offline.

Thanks,
John

If we did focus on a Vishnu day, we could include the Subaru crowd as Vishnu has products for them too. I don't know if there are even 8 Evo owners who read the EvoM NW Forum. But, being able to combine with the Subarus would surely increase our chances of success.

I'll be interested in driving south to get Shiv to tune my car (I use an off-the-shelf map on the XEDE now).

JMan! Excellent! I was just mentioning that to HAALN in a PM. I have a coworker who just killed his E36 M3 and bought a Tarmac Black VIII and he wants Vishnu mods. So, that makes 4 of us right there, I think we could probably get 4 more pretty easily huh? I need some cam gears and a downpipe baby!

Sweet! We have 4 people. JMan can you pass the word around up North to any other EVO owners? Hopefully there are more EVO owners around reading the forum.

Looks like we have started a new thread for the Vishnu Dyno Day now...

I wonder if Shiv can take his Xflash on the road to Portland? That way we can cover the flash and Xede crowd all at once. I want to go with Vishnu but am still on the fence between Xflash and Xede.

What are you on the fence about?

Depends on what you get. The XEDE is $895 I think. Tuning was $200 last time. The XEDE will do far more for you than the SAFC will (Timing and Boost as well as much more control over the A/F).

I am on the fence between getting Xflash or Xede. I don't plan on doing any more hp mods, but I have been known to change my mind! Xflash seems cleaner and lower profile. But you forgo a few ponies according to Shiv. Xede also has resale value. I wouldn't do the mail order Xflash but would go for a custom map Xflash. I know Xede is much better than Unichip, but the unichip I have in my MR2 I am not impressed with. But the Unichip problems may have been more with the tuner than the product. (Short story is an extremely rough idle the first 5 seconds after starting and I blew the motor due to detonation!) So I am a little gun shy of the piggy back approach.

Not much I can tell you. I judged the XEDE on it's own merits. I can't really speak to your experiences with Unichip.
