Need a tune

My car is stock but I bought it in Washington State and transfered it to Montana. The elevation here is much higher so need a tune. Is there anyone decent near Great Falls MT that can do this?

Mods? And do you have a laptop and the ability to log EvoScan?

He might be too far to drive for a tune, and he may not be modded enough to justify the expense. It could be possible to do a tune-by-mail.

no mods yet. I just really need this car running right. its incredibly underpowered right now and my friend seems to think that something is causing my m-vek to not operate properly and my car is running in some kind of safty mode. IDK, Im not really a car expert. I am a bit of a noob unfortunatly. I popped a check engine light as well. I do not have a laptop yet. Tune by mail seems sensable. I make trips to washington every couple of months but is it unsafe to drive this car like this over that distance?

Basically what he is trying to say is his Evo that he bought from WA may have a tune done from the previous owner to the elevation that it was at, maybe even a higher octane. Now that the evo is in MT at a much higher elevation, it could throw the MIVEC off causing the CEL. Due to the CEL being on, automatically the car will be put on safety boost. Which gives the reason for it feeling under powered. Main focus is what's causing the CEL, could it possibly be the MIVEC if the previous owner had a tune on it? And would getting an accessport fix that? There's no shop out in MT that is reliable enough, closest would be either Utah or WA, and I wouldn't recommend driving the car that many miles with the CEL on.
Rory, you may want to post this thread in Evo General or Evo Engine Management / Tuning Forums.

Also did you check all your injectors, sparkplugs, fuel pump, and even check the O2 sensor?
I did smell a strong fuel leak the other day.

Call up English, and see what they say, they can always help you troubleshoot the problem, and if not fix it, help you find means to fix the problem.

What code did it pull? Guessing altitude affecting the MIVEC is pretty far fetched. MIVEC is dependent on oil pressure and runs a fixed map. Normally MAF cars are not affected by altitude since the MAF has a barometer and intake air temp sensor on it. That determines where in the map the car is running. I will go with blown off pipe/boost leak or misfire code based on the description

Ok I got my reading, its a PO420 reading. Is that something effecting MIVEC? I'm guessing there is more than just that wrong with my car.

I believe I do have one. from what a mechanic said to me when I got the car is that the last guy put the cat on backwards to where the O2 sensor is in the wrong place. it is located on the bottom back of the cat if that makes sense.
