I also use Continental. But they are designated winter/snow tires. Extreme winter contacts. There is a difference or else Continental would just sell one set of AS tires.

Of course there is a difference, I was trying to make a point ; as far as A/S tires that may see snow, the DWS are hard to beat for their overall performance. That's all I was trying too say.

Seattle hills + freezing weather + extreme summer tire = fail

Thanks for the input guys. I wasn't looking for any tire to be perfect for everything, just good for our typical winter roads (mostly rain, maybe a little snow) without absolutely sucking for spirited dry road driving also (like a real snow tire would).

I plan to hit some track days this summer and see how I like the Evo for road racing, and will have another set of wheels for some good sticky tires. I may also get a set of studded snow tires for doing some winter rally stuff up in BC. Poor Evo is going to get run this year!

+1. Best jack of all trades tire if you have a seperate set of track tires. They have better straight line grip than my stock yoko's did. Decent in the turns, but not something I'd want at any track or autox event due to the soft sidewall... Drag racing would be fine though. They're more than capable of handling anything on the street unless you drive like a complete retard. And they are z speed rated, so you don't have to worry about that.

I have no personal experience in the snow, but every test I read says they're the best all season snow tire. For the NW where it snows maybe a week out of the year I think this is the perfect winter tire. Also, everyone I talk to that has direct snow experience with these says they're great, even people with rwd cars said they did pretty good. From all the research I did the only better tires for snow are actual snow tires.

John, I have ran Potenza RE760's on two different sets of wheels and they have been great to me in the wet. I believe they fall under high performance all seasons but I could be wrong. Regardless, they have been good to me in multiple real world wet conditions. Snow, I'm sure they epic fail.

I have heard nothing but great things as far as blizzacks and continental dws's.

Continental DWS are great all season tires. They handle snow well even during the Snowmageddon in the east coast a few years ago.
But, for the type of winters we get here, you'll be dealing with ice and the occasional slush more often. Unfortunately the DWS and any other all season, for that matter, won't be able to handle it as well as a winter tire. My opinion, winter tires for 4 months of the year; summer tires for the rest.

I have the Pirelli's (I'm pretty sure the same spec Ramses refers to, anyway), recently installed by DTC. So far they are great, and at a higher sidewall/less width, they have less "roll" than the POS BFG KDW2 that I had removed/thrown in the garbage... So far so good in the wet/bit of frost we've had. Haven't slipped a single tire (I live in the Monroe hills and it gets pretty slick), no hydro-planing, etc.

I wonder if the Ferrari/Porsche/Bugatti/etc (supercar forums) have people asking the same questions...

"I have a high performance car that I want to put crap tires on, what do you guys suggest?"

Summer tires for summer, winter tires for winter. you have an Evo, mods cost a LOT more than tires!
