How does the alternator handle the compressor?

Fine I guess, it's a 12V, 16amps compressor. Never had any electrical issues in any of my other previous vehicles, Rav4, Juke, Mustang either. The Outlander Sport would be the least of my alternator worries since we have regenerative braking on top of everything else.

The regen braking is what scares me. A replacement alternator is like $1,400

Why? Isn't that what our thousand year warranty is for?

Not if they determine the air pump was "directly responsible" for the alt. failure. Or it happens after the warranty expires.

It's a legitimate concern.
But, with our regen alternators capable of producing 130 Amps (max.) [spec LINK, for RVR] I don't think Wes's 12V/16A compressor will kill the alternator.

Burton,
Keep in mind he got the trim model that doesn't have all the other optional electronic dodads that we have, so his electrical system is under less strain than ours to begin with.

Unless Wes decides to blare out that train horn for an hour or two chasing other people away, his compressor wouldn't kick in all that much (is my thinking).

A 3/8"air line dumping air like that will empty a tank that small in a new York minute lol. I suppose he won't really be using it all that often though.

On a plus note, if you ever have a low tire, you can swap a tire chuck on the line and fill er up!

I'm surprised you didn't try to pull that off in the engine bay area. I don't think we could sacrifice any more space in the trunk area. We've really liked all the things we could tote with it, but hey, you manage everything very well with all your gadgets!

I think it might be physically impossible to put everything under the hood, and it wouldn't be practical to have to pop my hood open when I need to use my tire chuck.

Ah, I didn't know if you could miraculously fit the compressor behind the front bumper somehow. I've only been under the car once to change the oil. It would most likely be too tight.

Nice vid. That's impressive of the sound distance with those horns.

Our stock horn(s) truly sounds like toys. Now I will have to find something better.

You can't make it so ONLY the train horn sounds?

You can, but I've never done it before. I hate electrical wiring stuff, but I'm guessing you would need a more complicated switch that accepts 1 power source (horn wire) then 2 toggle positions.. One for each horn output.

Found it

I guess I'll return this switch since it barely fits into the blank button.

I wonder if we can order switch blanks from Mitsu for the switches in the panel? I've often thought about doing switched LEDs but don't like those nasty rocker switches. I single throw that is exactly like the ASC switch would be awesome if they had blanks (or maybe I could order the ASC switch and plasti dip it).

I'm sure you could find them, it's all about finding the right key words and actually putting in the time.
