Chevron fuel yielding less MPG??
I think the biggest problem with the fuel economy on our cars is the fact that you have to mash the gas for long periods of time just to get up to speed. I'm not just talking highway speeds, I find myself mashing the pedal for what seems like an eternity just to get up to 25-30mph. I know they made it under powered to improve gas mileage, but it's so gutless that I think the mileage is actually hurt because of it.
I'm starting to think about voiding my warranty and seeing what I could do with a turbo setup on this Mitsu. I'm sure I could use an exhaust manifold, turbo, intercooler and downpipe from a ralliart with minimal problems, the only tough part would be tuning. Since I've kinda given up on the whole fuel economy "benefit" with this car I'm getting curious about what the difference might actually be with a small, conservatively tuned turbo.
I know our CVT's aren't supposed to play friendly with turbos, but I swear I remember reading about someone at Road Race Engineering who put a turbo kit on a CVT Outlander Sport, tuned it to about 200whp @ ~8psi and it was running for nearly a year without issues. We'll see how much I feel like being a guinea pig in the next year or so, I guess.
