Thoughts on OEM Rear Diffuser

So, I have been back and forth with this accessory provided by Mitsubishi even before I bought the car. In my opinion, it looks a little silly at times and not bad at others. The rear of our OS is just missing "something" and our options are limited. Thoughts?

For those of you who don't know what I am referring to:

I think they look pretty good overall. I was considering getting one but I feel it would be pointless since I have a hitch.

I agree with you though, the rear bumper definitely needs something at the bottom. Either a hitch or that trim piece.

I appreciate your input. I know the diffuser is utterly useless and I would consider vinyl wrapping or Plasti-Dipping if I purchased it.

I feel a bit shafted since the majority of newer cars have a matte black lower valence that adds a certain sporty-ness to the car. Still, I prefer the 2011-12 bumper.

I definitely agree on the original styling vs. the newer model years.

What color is yours? If it's a light color this would be much more worthwhile than of you have, like, black. Lol

And honestly, plasti-dip is a great idea. For $5 and ten minutes worth of work you can "mock up" a rear diffuser to help you make your decision. I personally don't think that vinyl or plasti-dip would look good enough to be a permanent solution, but it should be great for a test run.

Mine is white and I have the front bumper portion vinyl wrapped in matte black, so I think it would be a good match. I've been tossing around the idea of getting new wheels too, but I'm learning towards no due to low, perceived ROI. But...I have that itch and the OS wants some of my $$$. lol

If the itch is just to have a different look (or appearance of) / a more aggressive "visual feel" than put the money in plastidip, since it's more a Personal thing than impressing anybody else.

Save money for NEW wheels, that's what I say.
(Or, if you haven't already gotten some better drop-in airfilter. I'm still trying to find a '11-12 airbox!)

I've been using a Cosworth filter from the start, but still not satisfied with the MPG. As for the wheels, that's a whole 'nother conflict for me as I don't want to spend that much money on anything that could potentially hinder my performance or MPG or only marginally improve it. We've yet to receive a definite answer from anyone who has already made the leap. Ideally, I would like Evo GSR wheels, but the width/tire size is a concern.

And I've gone off topic. Lol

I like the diffuser "idea," just not what is offered. I see it as, if you get a diffuser, it's to have an aggressive appeal(better yet, for function), but that OEM diffuser piece just looks so dinky to me. If it came on the car it would be the first thing I'd take off. I agree with vinyl and for once plasti-dip isn't a bad idea. Personally though, the reason I like the '11-'12 styling is because of the body color matching without the plastic black trim piece of the current models.

Haha...for $172.75 you couldn't noticeably make our platform "fast," especially with the diffuser. Nice find though.
