Missing 4wd selector Button

My wife and I just picked up an Outlander Sport. This is the 2014 SE AWC model with the touring package...etc.

I have a call in with the dealership but some how we don't have the drive selector button?!? It has the blank instead of the button.

The info center shows the car is in 4WD mode but we can't select it. Thus I called the dealer and they said they were going to call their Mitsu Rep.

Anyone know if they change or mode this button? I am lucky it is in 4WD because the wife has yet to come home with it and we live a 9200 feet.

When she gets home I will check the window sticker but I am sure it says it is on there. We test drove a few different ones and when we selected this particular one to buy I didn't even bother to check because I was sure the button would be there.

Is it possible that Mitsu forgot it?

That's new...
Well, anything is possible.
But, I have not heard of anyone else before mentioning a missing AWD mode selector switch.

What???

Can you post a picture of the center console?

I started checking the 2014 specs and in the brochure on 's website it says "drive mode selector" is standard on AWC models, so it is still selectable AWD and should still have one.

Looks like Mitsu made a mistake. The car has awc and it IS in 4wd mode. Instead of a 4WD selector button near the shifter we have a blank to hold coins. Just like you find on the 2wd models.

We are talking with the dealer to have them correct this problem. The wife took the car today so I will post a pic when I get back.

This is annoying since we did purchase the top end model, how could they forget something so important. Ohhhh Mitsu, you never will truly surprise me!

Well, at least you weren't punking us.
I was starting to think this was some kind of joke on us.

Guess, Mitsu got into the habit of removing/leaving features off of the OS year after year, someone decided it was time to remove something else (pro-actively), aye?.

The car is back at the dealer. I had to argue with the service manager and the only way I could get him to take the vehicle was by showing him the window sticker! He tried to tell me they were full time AWD now. Thus I had to bust out a window sticker to show him that it says Drive mode selector as the second item on the sheet.

They called me about 2 hours later and said that it should have the button. I told the gentlemen on the phone that they really shouldn't be using a Window sticker to decide if a car should have a feature that ALL 4wd sports have.

They ordered the switch and I have to wait till next week to get it. Thus I am picking up the car again to drive till they get the switch in. That will make the wife happy.

The classic Yoda mind trick by the dealer.

Glad you stuck to your guns.
Now hopefully they follow through and install the switch CORRECTLY. (cross fingers)

My parents ended up getting a 2014 Outlander Sport and I think they mentioned that it only has a button to switch between 4WD auto and 4WD lock modes. Take a look around the dash and see if there is another such button on yours. Apparently they did away with the ability to select 2WD mode but didn't inform the dealerships for some reason...

I'll have my parents double check where that selector button is on the dash but it wasn't where my 4WD selector dial was.

All right guys...
on the 2014 model, it is true the AWD Mode Switch/Button has been removed!

I've analyzed the photo and I don't see another location or alternate switch for the driver to select the different Modes.

NOTE:
Nice leather seat though.
Plus, I think the steering wheel controls are better situated.

That adds another item to the list of features taken off the list for 2014. Brutal.

Maybe it's a FWD model? If it's AWD, it should at least have a LOCK button.

Possible..
However, this vehicle is fully loaded. Be bad marketing to use a base FWD to show off all the Added options.

But, still a good point you make.

From the Kelley Blue Book website:

While the Outlander Sport is not meant for serious off-roading, models equipped with Mitsubishi's All Wheel Control have a 2-mode 4WD switch: "auto" for better grip in general and "lock" for slippery conditions.

It's strange for the assemblers to have "forgotten" about the button. A good way to know if it should have the 4WD button is by checking the manual that comes with it.
