2014 Outlander Sport Nav/Audio unit rebooting randomly
Hi All,
New to this forum and my first post here. I've posted this question on another Mitsubishi forum, but I am just trying to spread my net wide.
I recently purchased a 2014 Outlander Sport SE AWC 4WD with the touring package. I've had this car for about 1.5 months and the Nav/Audio unit has randomly rebooted while driving about 5-6 times. Anyone else have this happen (on any recent Mitsubishi)?
I know I can take it to the dealer for warranty service, but there is only one dealer in Brooklyn, NY and it is far from my apartment. On top of that it is is in a CRAPPY neighborhood with nothing to do in the area. So if I can avoid bringing the Sport in and either 1)hanging out while they figure it out or 2) taking the subway 1hr10min home (and back when it is ready for pickup) that would be rad.
So, just looking for anyone else who has had this issue and how long it took service dept to fix? Or is there another DIY fix out there?
Thanks very much!
Josh

i think this is the first issue I have heard. honestly it should not take them long to diagnose something like that then you have to wait for the replacement to come in and it should be a quick and easy install. dealler downtime should be minimum, unless you want a aftermarket system, then there is no need for the dealer

Welcome to the group!
Congrats on getting the 4WD.
Like SicLanEvo said, this the first time we've heard such an issue.
First of all, your vehicle is brand new and under FULL warranty.
DO NOT attempt to DIY this problem.
(That's rough you've got only one dealership.) But, it may be worth it. > Even knowing the time and distance to that 1 dealership in the bad part of town...
Difficult to say what's causing it without testing it in personal, it could be as simple as a loose connector or a wire that's shorting out, OR a Defective headunit...
Just let the dealer figure it out instead of you messing with it.
Keep us posted.

Their assessment was that the SDHC card I put in the user slot was causing the issue. The service manager mentioned that he had seen other MMCS units display the same behavior. Sounds like a firmware update to the unit is in order. However, he was not able to confirm when this would be coming. Furthermore, I am looking at the backup DVD of the maps that came with my 2014 vehicle and it is dated July 2013. Nice.
I am not a big fan of the the GPS/NAV unit in my Mistubishi to begin with. It is horrible at routing in NYC. And as compared to Waze or Google Maps on my Android phone, it has consistently chosen routes that were longer (in time - sometimes by 20 minutes) and included turns onto streets that were one way, the wrong way. Should have opted to get one without and gone aftermarket.
Other than that, I am pretty satisfied with my purchase,

So, I had my SDHC card out for 5 days and in for 5 days and it hasn't rebooted during either period. I will give it more time with the card in and see what happens. I did mention to the service manager that I observed that the reboots seem to only occur on very cold days (i.e. below 20 f). I have not driven in sub 20 weather since.
It just reminds me of a time when I worked for a company that had several sites throughout Manhattan. There was this one location that whenever it rained fairly heavily, the internet connection back to HQ would go out. The copper wiring in the ground was probably shorting out. But senior management refused to see the connection.

Isn't that typical!!
Whenever there's a problem that May/Will cost money to fix... NONE of the upper exec(s) wants to be the one to acknowledge (it) because that means they will eventually have to authorize "expense" to have it fixed.
> Reminds me of the BP's Deepwaters Rig... those Upper Managers was whining to the engineers, IF we had to replace/fix the blowout valve... "THAT WILL cost us a Million dollar$ per day in delays..." or some such.

Hopefully they learned their lesson... about pinching pennies.
