New OS owner here, a few questions

Hi all! First, let me introduce myself. I'm an old DSM guy. Had a 1992 emerald green Eclipse GSX in high school and sold it when I bought my BMW after I graduated college. Had 225k on the clock when I sold it, and I still see it driving around the island where I live from time to time. Suffice to say, Mitsubishi has a special place in my heart.

So recently, the misses and I decided an SUV would be nice for the family, and after driving most everything in the compact SUV class, we bought the OS. I would be lying if I didn't admit that mitsu had a leg up because of my bias, but I digress.

We settled on a 2WD 2014 mercury gray SE w/ premium pkg. So far, we love it! I did have a few questions though:

- The head unit seems to indicate that there is an AUX input, but I can't find it anywhere! If this illusive port exist, where the hell is it?

- Through lurking on here, all research seems to suggest that the air box is different on the 2014s than previous years. I'm not the modder I once was, but I would still like to do a K&N filter, if not a full intake kit. Are either of these available for the 2014 model?

- In August, we are traveling to the mountains in Virginia to run a Spartan race. I've read a bit on here about the CVT overheating issue. I'm a little concerned about driving up and down the mountains and the tranny overheating. Does this problem still exist on the 2014s? If so, are there any precautions I should take?

- Lastly, is there a way to change the background color on the head unit? I've seen various pictures online where the background is red or green, ours is blue.

Sorry for the long winded post. Thank you in advance for your help.

Welcome to the forum.

There seems to be an issue with the CVT fluid wearing out by 30K and will need to be changed (preferably Before) that mark is reached.

Other than that, obviously don't try to tow one of these:

Or,

That's what I was afraid of. There is a blank space next to the USB port. It's kind of puzzling that the head unit would try to look for input from AUX when it doesn't exist...

Thanks for the advice mRVRsport. I don't plan on towing anything anytime soon. Do you know if its covered under the warranty if it begins to whine?

Just what I thought! Another small thing Mitsu decided to take out on the new model year. Guess we'll add Deleted-Auxiliary-Jack to the list of axed features.

That's why I kind of kept my mouth shut on your jack question...

I doubt it** -
That's a maintenance item... You need to have it changed (by them = $$$ or DIY), just like taking care of the motor oil, brake fluids, etc.

By the way, your first oil change is on Mitsu, so it is Free. Get it done at the dealership, so they'll have a record of you doing proper and on-time maintenance schedule...

**But, you never know. If YOU "whine" enough about your rights as a customer, perhaps they'll take care of it for you

At the end of the day, auxiliary is a very primitive input medium, and between bluetooth and USB, you SHOULD be able to interface with 90% of devices out there. So I can understand why mitsu might have axed it. That said, they could have at least removed the aux section from the car's software to keep from confusing customers.

Have you posted a list of these "axed features" on here?

I'll see if I have it next to my USB port... I was sure I had one there (Unless I was thinking of my old Power Wagon having one next to a USB). If I do I'll take a picture, if not then I was wrong.

The AUX port is useful in my case because mine has both audio and video, and I use it for a camera I stuck in my front grill. No bluetooth or USB port can compete with that.
