CVT Trans Mods / Basic Mods

Has anyone ever heard of a way to get the CVT trans tuned to perform better? I have a 2012 SE and the thing is a dog off the line going into the equivalent of a high "gear" right away. ( i know this vehicle does;t have gears / I'm just trying to explain how the trans performs as if it were a standard trans ) Anyway.. Thoughts? Also, are there any basic mods I could do that would give the vehicle more torque and pep off the line without blowing the warranty?

Get used to paddle shifting and you'll be much happier.
just pretend it's an Italian sports car.
It's actually MUCH better if you use the paddles, other wise it's still going to be a dog.
you can better response by adding the aluminum crank pulley and/or ignition timing controller, but there's no way to just program the trans.

Thanks for the response Krakker, I'll read up on those Mods. You know if any of that stuff is doable with a say a moderate tech skill range for a DIY guy? The Paddle shifting def is a work around, but I feel like that CVT could have been tuned to perform better. Such a bummer. I have a relative that actually has a 2011 that I drove and the trans performs much better. I would describe it as being more "active" in it's use of "gear" ratios.

All depends on the years and the updates they've done t0 them.
My Sonata Turbo has a trans comp. update and I'm NOT going to let them do it. I've stated to them before at my dealership, "I bought this car the way it was and you are NOT to update ANY software to my car without my approval." They will NOT be messing with mine unless they want to lose business and/or risk a complaint or suit against them.
That, and they mostly just like me since I've pretty much sold 3 cars for them while just being in there.

We traded up to the new 14 "Outlander" and the 2.4 with the same trans is "much" more livable.
When you make the right mods, you can over come the downfalls of the CVT with the 2.0 the OS has.
Not to make a shameless plug, but I do have the Takeda intake for it, and the Ultra Racing solid strut tower brace for it if you're interested. PM me if you want. Intake, pulley, Throttle body and a better exhaust would be great additions. (the exhaust on this thing is like a cheap Chinese carnival roller coaster) , , , don't ask me how I came up with that, I've been drinking Patron.

ive been wanting to see some one do a turbo kit install on the os but its just a donting to see the work and tunning that would go into it, i still thing the best bet would to just wait till mitsu decides to get a turbo version or atleast 2.4 egine, kinda jealous that other brands have the idea already, and most cars are coming with turbo version even VW seems to be going all turbo yet mitsu is stuck in just offering their evo as a flag ship. not to mention its going to rest in the near future. sad>>>

Agreed!
It's odd that Mitsu doesn't seem to want to spread the Turbo love. It's not like they don't have the experience with turbocharging their 4-cylinder engines.

Here's an idea > Why don't they move the 2.0T EVO engine DOWN to the other models - like the O.Sports - and bump up the EVO's motor to a 2.4L or 2.5L as their flag ship option.

My suggestion to is to call the 2.0T as their new mEVO** engines.

** miniEVO (If Mitsubishi decides to use these terms I expect a share of the royalties!)

I think it would come down to tuning really some guys have installed evoX cams, EVO X throttle bodies, and injectors, just comes down to the guy that wants to buy a stock Ralliart Turbo set up (would be safer on this platform) or the EVO X stock turbo set up and oil pan. Piping would have to be custom, but I think the Ralliart intercooler would fit nicely.... I have been researching but cant pull the trigger because it is a daily driver.... le' sigh
