Hey everybody, new to the forum here investigating a possible new 2015 Outlander Sport, so I figured I'd bump the thread to see how current 15 OS owners like their cars. The dealers around me have some fantastic deals going on the OS, and with 2 young kids this seems like a perfect fit at the moment, so we're currently looking into one. As always, more options means more decisions, so we're hung up on the 2.0 vs 2.4 and FWD vs AWD. Personally I'd love the 2.4 with AWD but that increases the price a few thousand, and my wife, who would be driving it full time, loves the high gas mileage she gets with her Honda Fit so it would be something of a dropoff mileagewise from what she's used to. Perhaps a 2.0 with AWD would be a good compromise. The wife was even interested in a manual as her Fit is a manual as well. We don't need frills, so looking more at the SE model. I drove the 2.0 with the AC on, and it felt OK but a bit weak, but coming from a Fit it's not too bad. I didn't try it on the highway though. I'd assume in 4WD mode it would be even more weak, but at that point power isn't the issue.
So, questions: How does it handle in the snow in FWD? Chicago doesn't get awful winters but the past 2 have been bad. Is there anything you got that you don't need, or maybe something you didn't you wish you had? How is real world mileage? (I've read the threads on some being disappointed)Anybody get the 2.0 and be disappointed? 2.4 owners how is the real world mileage?
Sorry for the multitude of questions, just trying to gather as much info as I can from those with the actual experience and not the reviewers who seem to love to slam this car for not being a Mazda, Honda or Ford.

Here's the keynotes:
1. your Wife driving, with 2 kids... possibly in foul Winter weather (& it does NOT look like that's going to improve in the coming winters). Then a Capable AWD would be the only option I would consider for the family >
Reference Notes (Start from the beginning but if you like - skip to page 3, Post#40 to see what to a AWD Fail looks like also.) -

2. Want to know what MPGs can be achieved? Then read here >

But, keep in mind you're driving style, traffic conditions, road quality, and fuel mix can all effect mileage.
So, expect a running average of ~27MPG in a AWD 2.0L model.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the AWD FWD link. I'll give that one a read. I've had some SUVs where 2wd handling was so good that 4wd was hardly ever necessary, just wondering if that's the case with these or not. But obviously with the family I'll likely not gamble it.

I'd personally go with the 2.4L AWD. I think the 2.0L is pretty underpowered (even the 2.4L isn't that great).
As RVR said, don't expect the rated MPG. My wife's 2.0L AWD is averaging 26 and that's 85% highway driving at 55MPH. She's a little heavy on the pedal when accelerating though.
I would NOT pay the extra for the terrible navigation, however if you're into music I would opt for the Rockford Fosgate system.
It doesn't have the most room, but for it's size it's an awesome vehicle. It does handle really well.

1. Would you buy your OS again if you had to do all over again?
Yes and No. I like everything about my OS, but I have wished since I got it that it had more power and 4WD. I have a 2014, so there was no more power, but I could have gotten 4WD.
I also could have gotten a Ralliart Lancer. Then I'd have it all.
If I was buying this year, I'd get the OS with the 2.4 and 4WD/AWC whatever they're calling it...or a Ralliart.
2. Has there been any issues with the 2014/2015 OS, such as any major engine or transmission issues? Anything in general that is a common problem with these model year OS's?
I haven't had any trouble. Great gas mileage, no crazy stuff breaking on it. No recalls have applied to mine.
The reason I'm asking is I am about to purchase one in the next few days. Undecided between OS 2015 SE AWC and Toyota Rav 4 2015 Limited.
Screw Toyota.

Now IF Only
would put out a proper Ralliart version of our O.Sport, then all would be well in the world. Evolved Member

85% highway @ 55MPH but Only getting 26MPGs..
hmm.. that doesn't sound right.
We were easily getting 30+MPGs back when we were hitting 75% highway... granted Texas roads are very flat.
How many miles on your ODO currently?
And, you might checked your tire pressures and pump them up a bit. (37psi, for us)

Exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Although we're leaning towards the 2.0 AWD for the cost and because my wife isn't a leadfoot at all, her Honda Fit isn't a racer by any means. On her commute I'd think it would do well. When I drove the 2.0 it was weak'ish, but living in suburbia power and speed don't get you very far as there are too many other cars on the road and too many stop lights. I've got a 3.5 V6 in my car and rarely can take advantage of it. The only issue would be merging and passing on the highway, and that can be adjusted to.
I've read a ton of reviews, both written and video, and many like the car, just not at the asking price, especially with all the tester options. But the prices around here lately are well under MSRP, and we'd be skipping on many extra options.
We get around 22 - 26mpg with our 2.4L, mainly city driving, so 26 with the 2.0L mostly highway sounds low.

If it looks anything like this >
Then... it's not surprising to see that low of an MPGs from their highway commutes
I guess I should be a little more detailed about the 26MPG thing. First of all, we are in eastern Ohio, right on the river, so it is not flat all all.
Second, I think she frequently will sit with the car idling while she's on the phone, connected via bluetooth mind you.
Third, the 26MPG is going off the "non resetting" MPG readout on the vehicle. I don't drive the are so I'm not actually checking it by calculation.
It's got 13,500mi. on the odometer, I run full synthetic Kendall Oil.
I should also mention that the traffic is steady flowing at 55MPH on the highway, not like that image of hell above.
