Sound is moot to this conversation and butt dynos don't count . Numbers or we can throw this out right now.

I am sure dbsears can find the numbers on his claim somewhere on this site eventually, but honestly a basic understanding of physics and turbo cars is eventually going to prove him right...

I am glad somebody else understands turbo'd cars in general.

For anybody else no I have never had a 3.5in exhaust. Its pretty easy to understand phyics and flow rates as I deal with it everyday being an engineer. If you want proof their is few threads with hard dyno numbers where 3.5in gained NOTHING. This was at 600whp+ on a mustang dyno.

I am not putting the exhaust down as I have heard them and they sound cool. Its an ETS product so its bound to be good. Its just more of a braggin right or preference for sound to go 3.5in...not power. About the only person in the NW that has enough power to benefit from it is Paul.

There is no power benifit until you are around 650 horse. The reason to go with the ets 3.5 is the look and the sound, both of witch are great.

Jake my issue with the tuning it open part is if you have your car tuned on the agressive side and you start getting on it with out opening it up you know have knock.

And how long does it take to open? Seems like it would be a drag when you wanted full power fast.

The point I am trying to make is you cant just go around spouting off that this or that doesnt work, cause one person said one thing just cause your an engineer and its "common knowledge". Did you forget this is evom and most believe everything they hear and see? Thats all...

Bull **** it will. I dont belive that you will find any real gains but there will not be a loss. Please do not let this turn into a fight about back pressure.

Having a bigger then 3 inch exhaust will only give you a louder sound at this point. IT WILL NOT LOSE POWER.

Here are two quotes from a little book I would hope all turbo enthusiasts would own. If not, go buy it and learn something. The book is Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. Hopefully these will put this arguement to rest.

Figure 11-1 The best exhaust for a turbo is the least exhaust.

Rule: Backpressure in an exhaust system is evil.

Does the job description of engineer also include stealing people's flashes and installing them on other peoples cars? Not cool at all.....

speaking about the cut out.

remember the guy that gave you a ride at the dyno day jake? the guy with the blue evo.

yeah he dyno'd his car before and after he got the cut out. and he gained about 10 extra hp. that was it.

IMO i don't think it's a necessity.

What the hell are you talking about Who's flash did I steal...please enlighten me. Do you even know me. I only talk to about 3 other evo owners regulary. I gave one friend a JDM Mivec map hows that stealing anybodies flash???

Its all find and dandy about quoting books. I never said you won't loose power. I said you will loose off throttle response and torque which is common with less back pressure. Once at full spool you wont loose anything but before that you will. Point also is you wont gain anything when you aren't already outflowing 3in. I have datalogs from just changed from a 2.75in downpipe to 3in I lost almost 10lbs of torque and off boost was more sluggish. On boost there was no difference.

Edit: Since some require spoon feeding heres one such topic of 3.5 vs 3in: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=313811.
