it looks great im buying a mirage within a week or so whenever i find one. the 9 wheels look much wider than the evo 4 fenders will allow.

Here are some pics of the rear diff swap.

Old AYC diff on the bottom. Evo 8 diff on top.
Hi, can Evo 8 rear diff just pop in like that?

How does this work from the DMV standpoint? Is this still a Mirage or can it be registered as a Evo IV replica?

Where I am, this is still a mirage as far as the DMV and the insurance company is concerned. However, you should insure it with your company for the "agreed upon value" and not the "current street value" for then it goes missing or gets hit.

It's still a mirage because it carried the whole chassis from a mirage with the exception of the floor pan and therefore it kept the mirage vin number as you can't swap vin numbers.

Thank you. I was just curious how those things work.... in case I ever decide to do something crazy like that

It gets better when you are trying to figure out what keeps the vin on an old truck. Is it the cab or the frame (I never found an answer to this). I was putting a 54 f100 cab and bed on a 06 e350 frame.

This conversion / build is great with the floor swap and the owner through the photos makes it appear very easy!
