The Engine Bay Chronicles "Part 3"

Well...It's been a while since updating the ole thread. With having to do this work mainly on the weekends, and having to cope the weather and other special events. After a few nights of wire wheeling, sanding, treating, curing, cleaning and priming the affected areas, this is where I'm at with the Engine Bay.

Annd another weekend...

OCD kicked in, saw something I missed with the wire wheel.

Finally finished wire wheeling this side.

OCD Again!

Alright...looking like I'm getting somewhere again.

Lipstick on a pig

The bay is prety much prepped as much as I can it to.

Next up are the wheel wells. Remove wiring and suspension components. Wire wheel. Treat with OSPHO. Sand and clean. Paint with Rustlok and maybe Rustoleum bed liner spray.

All the old gauge(s) wiring that needs to come out.

Update June 8, 2020

Still Can't believe the we're basically halfway through this year already. It's been a rough start for me as well. Suffered from a Stage 2/3 (partial tear) Quad Tendon Injury at the end of January, had a 7.7 mag earthquake scare, and then the world take a dumb with Coronavirus .

Needless to say, not much has happened for me either. I only started to walk again around the end of April, so still recovering.
Next to nothing has happened with the the car other that what I started to do the last two weekends. With Corona, my country has been on lockdown, with borders only opening up for import the last two months or so.

1. So... As mentioned above, I ordered some good from Japan, A LOT of OEM misc stuff that I can't find in the US we're talking like 200+ small items. I've ordered timing covers, fuel neck filler, antenna + base, trunk latch cable, gas pedal cable, gas lid cable, rear glass moldings tons of misc bolts...and this list goes on.

2. I reached out to a company in the UK to see if they can do me up some custom brake lines for the car.

3. I've been in talks with a reputable source out of the US in regards to making me a custom engine/wire loom for the car as well.

4. I've also reached out to a local body shop on island that has my sense of taste when it comes to body repairs and paint work. I'm on standby for their call.

5. I've also touched base with a local company who does powder coating locally as well.

6. I also partnered up with a friend to get some new Parts and used OEM Evo parts from Auctions Yahoo Japan. I bought two Evo 9 rear doors, an Evo 9 ABS Unit, Evo 9 Brake booster, Evo 9 Clutch Master Cyl, a new Cusco Triangle brace. I also ordered the Brake Mater Cyl Brace from Cusco, off of Nengun.com (currently waiting for that to ship as well).

7. Trying to get as much as I can when I can for the car. I struck gold with a friend from YouTube, Paul over at Boosted Films https://www.youtube.com/user/DontStopMe15/videos. He hooked me up with some matching JDM Evo 8 MR tail lights to my JDM Evo 8 MR headlights. Can't thank him enough for hooking me up. Then I had a friend pick them up in Miami, and bring them back to the Island for me. Thanks Alex!

8. Now that I'm walking again I took some time out to get a few items that were on the motor cleaned up and ready for powder coating. I still have a lot that I’d like to get powder coated/cerakoted but that more this that I need to pull off the car, examples are... front subframe, control arms, tierod shafts, wheel hubs, and the brake calipers.

9. Finally! The Biggest update/ milestone. Last year you all saw me reach out to Curt Brown (may He rest in peace ) for my Cylinder Head Work. So I decided to reach out to him to see if he would build my block for me, and well...in short; he did.

So without further delay, here are some of the pics of all the items mentioned above.

Japan Parts:

Evo 9 Doors

New Cusco Triangle Strut Brace

Evo 9 ABS Unit

Evo 9 Clutch Master Cylinder

Evo 9 Brake Booster.

The misc engine parts I cleaned up.

Before: Nasty Oil Filter Housing

After: Cleaned Up Oil Filter Housing.

Misc Parts that were also cleaned up. Some of these will get cerakoted.

Now for the Tail Lights and Headlights.

Lastly my Curt Brown Built 2.2L 4g63 block.

Still in the plastic

I was so hyped, I even went out and bought Break-in Oil .

I'm currently in the process of removing my engine harness, which is a royal PITA. Whatever little chance I get, I'll be sure to post an update. Might even try a thing, and make my first YouTube Volg.

Stay safe out there Everyone.

Same here. I've just been holding off for too long. I just made up my mind that now's the time to pull the trigger.

Thanks! There's a first time for everything lol. I just asked around and did my own research to see what worked best. Mind you, what you see there did take a few months.

I keep telling myself, "do it right, do it once"; especially when you want a good paint job. The foundation sets the stage for everything else.

Good Day Everyone,

Coming to the forum for some much needed assistance. Searched a few threads on here, but none really explain 1. Where the connector is and 2. How to remove it.

All other connections have been disconnected, and it's just this one that holding me back from. Fully getting the harness out.

Bearing in mind I have a RHD JDM Evo 7. So the harness will pretty much be a mirror of the USDM LHD models.

The culprit that loops up behind the dash.

The secure point on the fire wall.

Pictures are hard to get especially when you can't see behind there lol.

If anyone has any insight, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Update July 6, 2020

Got some updates to share via my post above.

"2. I reached out to a company in the UK to see if they can do me up some custom brake lines for the car."

After a few sessions of crawling under the car, I finally finished up messuring the entire brakeline system. I'll actually be sending this info off today for then to get started on the making of these custom brakelines.

"4. I've also reached out to a local body shop on island that has my sense of taste when it comes to body repairs and paint work. I'm on standby for their call."

We got the call Boyz! Even got a visit to look at the car. I was pretty proud of myself when the shop owner told me what I had done so far was pretty good work. Glad that I really stuck to it so get it where it is now. Hopefully around the end of August the car should be in the shop for a face-lift. I'm actually really excited

A bit of a saddened update to the above post. The good, and then the bad.

The Good:
On a positive note: The brake lines are on their way. Currently awaiting an update from the UK Carrier to confirm their arrival to the Island.

The Bad:
As COVID has affected every part of the world, even though our little Island has pretty much bounced back for the most part, it's a tough one to just get over it and move on. This thing has caused so much issues for businesses and has affect everyone in many various ways whether good or bad. A few weeks ago I got a call from the Body Shop Owner, and he was very apologetic about the situation he's currently facing, and I respect that he took the initiative to give me a call to give me an update. There's no one to blame or to hold accountable. It is what it is, and as he has given me his word, I'm going to keep mine. With that said, the date has now been shifted to December 2020.

In other news. the buying of replacement parts still continues. I got one more small order to make, and then hopefully, that should be it. Once that's complete, I can finally buy me some GO FAST PARTS!

But for now...feast your eyes on some new new parts.
