Am I going the right way in building my Evo ?
I got this as a shell around 5 years ago , little by little I been building it but I stopped for a good 3 years . Now I’m able to finish it .
My build is super over built because it was being built for a 6766 . I want an Evo I can drive daily I don’t care about numbers or anything right now
I ended up going the stock 9 turbo route , got stock intake mani , new 1200cc injectors , new upper piping, new tial 50mm bov, new csf slim rad, new oil cooler , just gonna be on 1 Walbro 450 and im gonna do the timing since
I got new GsCS2 , 2.3L , radium hangar + plumbing kit
my is mega overbuilt and I know the turbo is too small but I want to experience my Evo from the most “ lowest “ version of it and then build it to what I want it to be . Hence it being my daily first
I’m pretty young (23) and don’t know everything so I just want to hear opinions . I just really want to experience an Evo asap , should I be concerned at all with my engine sitting for 5 years? It does have assembly lube and it did get oil through a few years ago when it was being cranked

Being overbuilt is no issue. The only thing I’d swap out for is a full size rad. Don’t want anything slim/mini for street use. As for the engine. I’ve had one sit 8 years and still full of oil in journals. It’s no problem. Just make sure you prime it on first start and it’s good to go. A lot of guys went big power build on these cars which is a big mistake. Nothing wrong with it but they shouldn’t own evos imo. These cars are Swiss Army knives. You’re cutting them off at the knees when you chase a quarter mile number. They can do it but you’re not doing any justice to its potential. They literally do it all. So I agree with your decision.

Okok, do you think I should consider a shop to the first startup and get it running good ? The previous owner claims he had a fresh head and block ( he did have pictures) I want to try to do it myself but the fear of messing up on an evo kinda stops me

-remove spark plugs and disconnect the crank position sensor to cut fuel and spark.
-unplug your turbo oil feed line from the head (not the turbo). Connect a vacuum pump or suction via a clear tube to that port and pull air until you start to see some oil, then connect it back. This will ensure that when you crank you will see immediate pressure.
-crank the engine for 10-15 seconds. Gauge light should go off and if you have oil pressure gauge you should start to see it build anywhere from 10-30ish psi. Then reconnect your CPS and reinstall spark plugs. You should be good to do a hot start.
