I've got to admit I'm having ball of a time working on the car, somehow like I already knew I would lol. It's Wednesday now so I really hope to get this Lancer running some time this week, and before the weekend because I'll be so tied up with other work.

um, what? why did you cut the harness? how did you connect it to the battery? I don't understand.

at the fuel pump connector, you need to measure resistance from pin 4 to ground, and then check for voltage at pin 5, you shouldn't be cutting any wires...there's only 2 wires connected to the pump itself...find out which one is bad, so you're not chasing the wire bundle if it's just a bad ground...the ground is right beside it, the power wire comes all the way from the fuse box...

The ultimate goal is to convert it over to an Evo VII. I love the cars. However, looking around, if money is no object, I might consider cheating a little bit with engine swaps and whatnot. VW makes an 8-cylinder engine that's like two of the 4G63's mates at the crank with no turbo. If I can ever get ahold of one and build it, that's what I'd like to do. Just a theory right now.

In terms of real things to do to it right now, I'm getting the pieces together for a rebuild on the engine and transmission. Finding the parts is one thing, but figuring out how to do the job with the tools I have will be another. Just a little more research, I guess. Looking at extractor vents and a ram air scoop straight into the intake air box. I know that it might not look the best, or sound that way, at least, but I don't want or have the money for a turbo build. I just want a little more fun and something that no one else has.

Here's pictures of my ride. Not much to brag on or look at, she's a work in-progress.

That's my baby, right there.

Accessory outlet I put in while painting the dash trim

Don't mind the missing knob. I painted the dash trim red to match the steering wheel cover. Plan on changing up the paint scheme one of these days with a few red stripes.

Everything I'm running on so far. Bought my headers and wrap offline for less than $150 from different places. Works great for whatever money might have gone into them.

Ok guys here's the update . First off thank you so much guys for picthing in and helping. I did indeed use many of your suggestions and they proved helpful. Second off when I said I'd be ready to put in 12 to 15 hours today working on the car I got to be honest I really did not think it would take that amount of time but it did ( counting time it took to research information and make phone calls and trips to the auto parts store) . It did indeed take me about 13 hours. Everything I ate and drank went towards the thinking/planning and actual physical work lol. Ok,,,so,,, it turns out the fuel pump was not the "it". I know, crazy, as all my attention got shifted there after I realized I couldn't hear the pump running with the key turned to on. Stay with me here. Now I don't know about you guy's Lancers, but I found out that with my car the second fuel pump relay doesn't complete the circuit until the key is turned to "start". So all that time and testing (at least 2.5 days) I had been trying to trouble shoot the no power to fuel pump problem and it was working the whole time(as far as I know) (guess well never know for sure now will we lol) . I did so research and found out that when you turn the key to on position the first relay is activated and sends power to the second relay. But again the second relay doesn't complete the circuit until the key is turned to the start position. And yes as the car is starting/cranking the pump starts. As soon as I turn the key back a little to on position the pump immediately stops. So right then and there I realised that was not the "it" problem I had been chasing. Now I know what you're thinking, you're thinking well what about the 7.5 fuse that WAS blown? My answer: I don't know honestly. I can't explain it. So could the fuel pump have been a problem at one moment in time and I just didn't notice? We'll never know I guess. Ok keep up with me my brothers. By the way I bought some fresh gas about 2 gallons. So at this point here's my thinking: it's not the fuel system, it's not the fuel, it's not the fuses( at this point current fuse status is all clear), the starter is brand new, the timing system brand new and tuned, the batter is good, so next obvious place to test is the ignition. First thing I check is the spark plugs and guess what? There's oil in the spark plugs. And the spark plugs themselves didn't look heathy. I know oil in the plug was not good but wasn't exactly sure what was happening. So of course at this time I'm Googling it. 99.9% of the time it's bad valve cover gasket and or the O rings. So I call the Advance Auto Parts closest to the house and asked them to hold the gasket kit for me as it was the last one. I hoped in my parent's car and fetched that kit. This fix I have done before so it wasn't hard for me the motions of completing the task. But what made it hard is that once again the previous owner/owners abused this Lancer. The valve cover already looks like some one poured black and blue paint and let it run and dyr. But on top of that the bolts on the valve cover had been over tightened and caused the valve cover to bend and deform there around the holes that the bolts go through. So while the top of the engine head is clean and perfect straight, the gasket wont fit right against the valve head cover. So when I try to tighten the bolts the gasket it moving and wont stay straight. And there's gaps left between each bolt because the gasket is not fitting correctlt against the valve cover. Sooo the only way to make it seal is guess what? Yep over tighten the bolts again and you know a brand new head gasket don't like to be over tightened. Anyway, I did manage to make it seal have way decent. Now remember, at this point and time, the car has been parked and not running for almost 4 days now. I had to jump the car off after completing the gasket replacement. And guess what? There while my parent's car was charging my Lancer's battery, I cranked up the car and it fired right up first try not a bit of cranking lag. So as you can imagine, I'm estatic and bubbly. All that work had payed off. And my confidence of working on it and trouble shooting it had shot way up there lol. As for as I'm concerned, 1 of 2 things was the "it" problem, or it was both. 1. The oil in on spark plugs was preventing proper spark/combustion. Or 2. The engine was losing pressure through the old gasket. Or both. Now unfortunately my problems did not end there today. I know lol, you're like oh know what now? Lol yep that's what I was thinking. Well as I drove the car around the yard a little ( mostly back up and pull foward) I untimately parked it again in the same spot and position. But I noticed a puddle of oil under the car. I was like OH NO!!! I looked in the engine compartment and guess what? That there wasn't a consistent seal from the gasket and it was leaking out the back side of the gasket. I ultimately removed it again to examine it. I came to the conclusion that I'm not going to get a proper seal with this valve cover. So the car is still parked and will start but now it will stop on it's own because it loses pressure there through the gasket gap, or I should say valve cover gap because that is where the real problem lies. So as of this evening right before posting this update I have contact someone on Craigslist that has recently parted out an 03 Lancer ES and he still has some parts left. I had been texting him the last few days asking if he had certain parts (even though I knew I didn't really have the money lol) just making conversation and keeping the door open for a deal. And man did I get a deal today. I already knew he probably still had our chat open in his text messages, so I just texted: engine valve cover? And he messaged: yes. So I have made arrangements with him to buy the valve cover for $50 next Thursday when I get paid again because I'm tapped out for this week (FYI I've been running here and there buying random parts etc that I left out of this post. Plus the gas for all my trips and I still need gas for work until next week. So as much as I hate too I gotta leave the Lancer parked for 7 days at least. I don't feel like messing with that valve cover again knowing it's bent down on every hole and not maintaining a leveled surface for the gasket. And even though the gasket fits up in the grove of the valve cover, it's still not going right and don't fit like it should. I can get a clean valve cover that's not covered in paint and same time don't have to wrestle with the gasket and don't have to over tighten it and don't have to worry about it going to lose pressure or oil. I'd say that will be $50 well spent next week.

Changing the head gaskets and o rings

Can you see how disformed the area is around the bolt holes? It's like that around all the holes

This is the new kit $20, spark plugs seperate of course

Dude, I have a spare valve cover that I pulled for paint once upon a time. It's just sitting in a Rubbermaid tub out in a shed. Planned on taking that tub up to NC this week for a full overhaul on my drivetrain, but if you need one, I think I paid $15 or $20 for it at the junkyard. Came off of a perfectly stock engine and everything. PM me for more information if you're more interested. $50 for that is a little steep, honestly, especially when they're so cheap at a local junkyard.

My brother I should have taken a picture of what I did lol. Yes there's a black and red wire that runs to the fuel pump. I simply snipped them and removed the pump with the harnes plug still connected to it. So basically I'm holding the pump in my hand with the plug still on it and the red and black wire so I just tested it that way straight to the battery

WOW my brother SWEET ride! It look's very similar to the OZ I had before . I like where you're going with it. I don't know about you, but I like having an under dog Lancer really. Everyone know's the Evos are the best. But what everyone doesn't know is: what's that OZ got under the hood? Or what's that ES got under the hood lol. I like starting from a simple base model like ours and building it gradually. We learn so much about our cars in the process of building them and the skys the limit (or should I say our wallets the limit haha) to what there potential can be. When I can find the picture I want to show you what I want my ES to look like. I so it while I was Googling the other day but didn't save the picture. I'll have to find it again. But either way I don't need the picture but wanted to show you

I absolutely love that painted dash trim very nice. Guess what? I've got one too in my ES model but it's wood grain design. Not exactly a sporty theme. It's got to go and from the results of your project sounds like painting it is the best way to add a fresh strip of color in the interior there very nice!

Yes sir I'm interested!!! Man I love this forum site. I haven't been here but a week and I've learned so much already chatting with you guys lol. Yep I thought I was getting a great deal the $50. Well I'd be interested in buying yours if you don't need it, but any other information you got would be great. Thanks a lot

Guys this is what I want my Lancer to look like, at least from this angle. I'm sure this one has and aftermarket front bumber from this angle I'm loving the view. No spoiler, no loud exhaust, and remove the lancer es words from the trunk. Just keep it simple neat and clean. Aftermarket rims? Of course a must. But that's it for the outside. Everything else keep it looking stock. Even the lights keep it stock. I'll keep my car black and tint windows oh and lowering springs? Yes lol.

Yes on the lowering springs because they simply add better performance. And I like that because I drive sooooo much. It would be nice not to lean in so much on every turn

As if I didn't already have enough trouble. This is the valve cover bolt that was stripped and bent too(wounder how that happened?) This is the tap screw I used success to repair the bolt hole. All this work should would make some nice videos if I had someone to hold the camera lol

Ok so you guys know what I want the sides and back of the car to look like(mostly stock) and this is what I want the fron to look like(mostly stock also) with the acception of the custom fog lights(wow they look perfect right there!) And also with the acception of the aggressive lowered look. Now personally this is too low for me, but yep this and the previous pic perfectly show the near future of my ES. With the big differences in color though. Mines will be all black including the rims.
