So, after a year of messing with failed Shortblocks in my car, I decided to start over, sack up, and buy a new OEM Shortblock.
I place my order with STM and wait my two weeks. For some reason the engine was shipped to them first and then to me, delaying the process. I'm not exactly sure why, don't care. That's not the problem LOL
So the truck pulls up , the driver gets out, and his first words to me are " you may want to come take a look at this". Now, to be honest, I fully expected to get the block in a damaged package. I just seem to have bad luck whenever I order stuff online LOL Long story short, STM verifies the block was on a pallet when they received and shipped it out. According to the driver, roadrunner pulls packages off of palettes in order to save room on their trucks. When I hop in the back of the truck, this is what I see.The plastic bag was torn, the cardboard box was ripped open,
and dirt, dust, and other debris had contaminated the entire engine.
You can probably imagine my anger and disgust. I contacted STM and they are taking responsibility by filing a claim with the transportation company. My only complaint in all this, is that I am out $3200 until the claim is resolved. I don't feel it is my responsibility to have to wait as my dealings are with STM, but it is what it is. Meanwhile, I have my car in pieces in the garage, I am missing events, and I have a $3000 paperweight sitting on the floor. Moral of the story: if you order anything and receive a tracking number from roadrunner transportation, put a stop to that **** right away!
That sucks man. I ordered a JDM rear from STM about 3 weeks ago and received it last week. The box was torn up and the bumper was sticking out of it. I checked the whole thing over and it was fine so i didnt call and complain because no harm was done. But if a shortblock showed up to my house like that id probably go crazy

you got a box? you're one of the fortunate ones. When the driver pulled up with my jdm rear I expected him to pull a box out of the truck. what does he do? reach in and pull out the bumper as if he was on a last minute quickie delivery holding it with one hand like it was a pizza. Half wrapped in bubble wrap, the other half exposed and bent in from something heavy crushing it in the truck. I just stood there shaking my head. This was FedEx by the way. Sucks to here OP some of us just have a lack of luck ordering online. Would like to hear the turn out on this.
I always order stuff from STM but have not ordered anything that big. I am lucky to be somewhat close that it takes a day, maybe two to receive anything from them. Sounds like the person(s) that screwed you were the shipping company. Can't really blame STM for anything as they sent it out in the condition you expected. Not that you did in any way but can't wait to see someone misread your original post.
It does suck you are missing out on those events but as long as it doesn't take a long *** time and STM doesn't slack on getting you fixed up as soon as possible. I'd consider it bad luck and move on once it comes in as expected.

That's the plan. We'll see. Tomorrow will be three days since i notified them of the problem. I think the quickest resolution would be for them to refund me then go after the shipping company for reimbursement (it sounds like they are already in contact with RoadRunner, anyway). It will cost more than I'm comfortable with, but my local dealership can get me another shortblock for an extra $280. And they can have it in three days. And I can pick it up myself, on a pallet, undamaged LOL.
At this rate I may as well sent my stuff to have built, instead of ordering OEM. May have been quicker.
Freight companies are not allowed to take freight off pallets typically. So things like that don't happen. I hope you get your full amount...
Typically.
I work for a distributor..
We normally label the 4 sides of the pallet with a "do not destroy wrap" labels or something similar..
We also specify when we schedule the pick up that the pallet is not stackable and not to break down pallet.
We also make sure when the carrier signs he signs a specific way...wording can get you out of trouble
If something were to happen and a claim needed to be filed. .We don't make the customer wait until we get reimbursed...once claim is filed I next day the item.
I'm shooting for the refund, so I can order another locally. And it's a good thing i didn't send in my engine to be built; turns out my crank isn't good. That woulda sucked LOL

Well, they probably prefer to not be out $3200 until they are reimbursed. I get their point, but not the best customer service.
Let's say Im about "this close" to being sure to recommend against ordering anything like this from them. I didn't hear today (STM is open part-day) which means IF I get a reply back on Monday, it will have been 5 days since the incident, with no update. I called STM from, literally, in side the truck to get the process started ASAP. I admit I'm not the most patient person in the world, but waiting a week to find out what's going to be done isn't cool, IMO. It should take maybe a week to rectify the situation... but not to decide what should be done.
In the future, this is the best way to deal with merchandise that arrives damaged:
If the delivery person is at your door and the goods are clearly damaged, advise the driver to record the delivery as damaged, confirm by looking at their signature board or computer that he/she has recorded the delivery as damaged, and then refuse delivery for the reason "damaged goods."
Once you accept delivery, you are in for some headaches in trying to get it resolved. Good luck.
Unbelievable. Seriously. This would make me furious. Good luck and I hope it gets sorted. But there is no way to get the time lost back, or forget the memory of this lol.

Notes where made on the shipping paperwork, the driver let me write them myself since he wasn't sure how to describe exactly what was damaged. I got video and pictures of the entire delivery. I planned to refuse, but my contact @ STM advised me to accept and said we'd figure out what to do.
I won't assume STM will play the "you accepted it so it's your problem" card. They haven't given me any reason to think that. They have implied they will make it right, they are just taking a long time to do so.

Each passing day = increased frustration. My plan was to drive the car as much as possible this season. Beginning in Sept, I may be out of the game for the following two years.
